I opened my inbox today, and this lovely piecie of news was waiting for me:
SYSTEM OF A DOWN SET TO RELEASE HYPNOTIZE NOVEMBER 22 ON CD AND DUALDISC

Six months after System of a Down's Mezmerize debuted at number one on Billboard's Top 200 Albums chart, the uncompromising and outspoken quartet returns with Hypnotize, part two of a promised two-album set. American Recordings/Columbia will release two versions of Hypnotize, the band's fifth studio album, on November 22.

Both the CD and DualDisc versions feature 12 new songs as well as artwork by Vartan Malakian, father of SOAD's guitarist/singer Daron. The packaging for Hypnotize is specially designed to physically join Mezmerize and Hypnotize together, forming one unified product with continuous artwork. Additionally, the DualDisc edition will contain exclusive behind-the-scenes footage showing the making of both records.

More importantly, the albums interlock musically. The final track on Hypnotize, "Soldier Side" completes "Soldier Side Intro," which appears as the opening track on Mezmerize.

HYPNOTIZE Track Listing
1. "Attack"
2. "Dreaming"
3. "Kill Rock 'n Roll"
4. "Hypnotize"
5. "Stealing Society"
6. "Tentative"
7. "U-Fig"
8. "Holy Mountains"
9. "Vicinity of Obscenity"
10. "She's Like Heroin"
11. "Lonely Day"
12. "Soldier Side"

Thoughts?

Sounds like a great album, if it's anything like Mesmerise was then we're in for a real treat. I only found out they were releasing this album a couple of days ago, and I'm already looking forward to it

I hope it can rival the last one! I like the whole idea that the albums connect, it's a good idea. I'll probably be off to get the dual disc, which sounds very guuuuurrrddd (Copyright infrigntment number 2: Dodo Queen.)

sounds good. I'm definitely going for dual-disc. SoaD is one of the few bands I'd actually volunteer more money to than I have to.

Would we recieve the Fan Pack on November 22nd or would it be shipped then? I haven't pre-ordered anything before, see. I've ordered the Fan Pack anyway. Also the video for "Hypnotize" is number 9 on the NME chart show (on MTV2, for those of you with music channels) and also on rotation on KERRANG. Just so you know.

Same story here, I only got into them when I bought Mezmerize after hearing BYOB and Cigaro. They're truly fantastic, and I love every one of their albums, and have all of them except Toxicity, which I haven't been able to find in the shops. I should've bought it for a fiver when I first saw it....

Okey dokey, ladies and gentlemen, I have some more info on Hypnotize.....

*You can find a track-by-track rundown of the new album here. (http://forums1.sonymusic.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/278109551/m/2491031453)

*Also Q magazine (http://www.Q4music.com) reviewed "Hypnotize" is this months issue. This is what they said:

4 out of 5 stars.

"Brutal enough to please hoodie- clad teens, yet politcally engaged enough to impress Gurdian readers, System Of A Down remain the one metal band non- metalheads can enjoy. While previous album Mezmerize flirted with R&B, Hypnotize tones down the pop flourishes in favour of the blunt, kinetic ferocity of 2001's Toxicity. It's a bleak affair, frontman Serj Tankian summoning images of blackened corpses and godless, war-torn wastelands. Then there's Vicinity Of Obscenity, with it's frantic bellowed chorus of "Banana terracotta pie!"- surely the moest startilngly odd protest song you will ever hear."

Essential tracks: Attack, Stealing Socitey, Vicinity Of Obscenity, U- Fig.

And for those who haven't, you can pre-order the album here! (http://www.systemofadown.com/store)

yes!
Vicinity of Obscenity is sounding Violent Pornography-esque, as I expected from the name. The more I hear about this album, the more I want it. November 22nd can't get here fast enough.

Actually, I saw an ad for it which said "November 21st" so we might not have to wait an extra day!

I really really can't wait for this album. It sounds like it might be better than Mezmerize, which is saying something in my opinion.

Anyhow, i managed to get my hands on this early to see how it is (i have pre-orderd it already, but its nice to check if its any good) and it is fantastic, the songs will once again grow on me and become familiar just like Mezmerize - infact it could be better!

Purchase definatly if you like soad.

If you go to their site (www.systemofadown.com) there's links to a stream of the CD until it comes out.

I'm waiting 'til it's delivered, but this is legit stuff for those of you on moral high ground.

thought i would check that out...
i didn't much care for 'hypnotize' (the song, that is) on the first few times i heard it; but i figure i was just reacting to the radio edit. somehow the full-length version seems like a whole other song - even if it's the same excluding that the radio edit has bits missing.

You placed the following order:
SYSTEM OF A DOWN Hypnotize £8.75
TOTAL PAYMENT: £8.75

Thank you!Can I get a "w00p w00p!"?
Strangely, CD-WOW seems to think the CD's been dispatched, but it's not out until Monday. Still isn't as strange as the fact my copy of Mezmerize came from Hong Kong. o_0

It hasn't arrived for me either. :(
If it's not delivered by tomorrow, I'm gonna get a pirate version. It's not as if it's costing them anything, I've already paid for it.

My copy arrived t'day! It pwns! My current favourite tracks are Vicnity Of Obcenity, U-Fig and Kill Rock N' Roll. Shame the DVD kinda sucks, the videos are good, but the documentary doesn't make much sence and it mostly pictures with music or videos of the band doing various things with weired-up cameras.

i was far too occupied by classes yesterday to get it; and today i don't have time before my afternoon class starts - and any local record store will be closed by the time i got to it from the university following class.

i shall have to wait another day. i think i can.

I picked up a copy today, already given it a couple of listens. Its a good album but not quite as good as Mezmerize. It doesn't have as many of the fun tracks and all feels a lot more serious, if you get what I mean.

Of course if you see it as part of Mezmerize (how can you not, the albums literally slot together) then things get a bit different. The albums show two sides of the band, the playful side and the more heavy side, with some crossover, and the two albums go very well with each other.

Basically if you're going to get Hypnotise, make sure you've got Mezmerize first. Its good on its own, but far better as the second part of a double album.

I defintley prefer Hypnotize to Mezmerize actually. It's got a much heavier, more brutal feel, Mezmerize felt too light for me. Not to say Mezmerize wasn't good....

Agreed. I just got the album today (from Hong Kong, as usual :p) and was surprised to find blastbeats in Attack.

Also, has anyone joined the two albums together? I did. :D

I got the album a while ago, and the first thing I did was join them together. I felt like one of the power rangers, and I was actually expecting it to glow when it LOCKED IN!

It didn't alas, but nonetheless my life now feels more complete.

i only have one thing to say

TERRACOTTA PIE

oh and also, i think some of the songs do need some kind of analysis because this last 2 albums have had a message that needs to be spread. I think "soldier side" (the one on hypnotize) is one if the best proest songs i've ever heard. it's so very very angry but in a constructive way.

i got this album yesterday, and i am so glad that it was only a copy. i think this album is just utter crap. Don't get me wrong, i like SOAD... well the older stuff from Toxicity and even Steal this album. But i just didn't hear anything different, and the guitarist, darron isnt he i dont know, really shouldn't sing. To be honest i dont like shearching for the deeper meaning of stuff, so i don't get most of the lyrics and stuff, but even so these lyrics made less sence than chop suey. so to sum up, i think this is a crap album, well thats just my opnion, which most of you dont seem to agree with. meh.
