This is a really stupid thread, yes...but I recently got a 30 dollar gift certificate for iTunes...and I don't know what to buy.

So I thought, "Why don't I ask the guys down at the Weebls-Stuff Forums? I'll get to hear some new music, some new styles."

So, what's the best of the best out there? Suggest the best and I'll listen and give my pointless opinion on the albums.

(Again, I'm sorry, I know this is a stupid thread.)

Not the biggest rock fan, but I'm trying everything out here.

Tenacious D: Folk-rock, funk, and humor in a blender. Not bad.

KILLING JOKE - Influential noisemakers whose tribal approach and fiery imagery made it possible to have heavy music you could dance to. With a nihilistic attitude fronting fuzzed-out guitars and dance-beats, Killing Joke is the godfather of Alt Metal bands.

At the dawn of the 1980s, Killing Joke forged a new, forceful sound. They are as heavy as metal, as politically barbed as Punk, and as abusively cynical as Industrial. Their rhythms are so hypnotic and primal they can drive a dance floor, yet their songs are so full of art and intellectual politics they require attentive appreciation. They continue to be a profoundly influential band, still unmatched in perfectly produced raw aggression.

Brilliant band. Only album I have is Pandemonium, and it's good without being too loud like some metal bands.

Try somethine new! Sigur Ros have opened up the doors to a whole new mellow world for me. Also try some Reel Big Fish for some upbeat ska/punk fun. And how about the new Franz Ferdinand album? There's loads of great music out there...

Okay here:

Godspeed You! Black Emperor: iTunes only had 5 songs by this group and noted that 1 song by this group could contain over 4-5 pieces within. Sorta like The Mars Volta. With songs longer than DJ Shadow's, this band sounds quite experimental.

Hexstatic, Clodcut, DJ Food: Funky, jazzy Ninja Tune stuff.

Amon Tobin: Chilled out and jazzy works that remind me of DJ Shadow and Mr. Scruff.

Manic Street Preachers: Punk rock with some quieter moments and a small touch of pop. Not bad, not bad at all.

Jack Johnson: Not my style but I liked his stuff.

Lemon Jelly: I listened to the album "64-95", and this is some good stuff right here. I like it, it's like the Chemical Brothers.

The Beta Band: Didn't get to hear much, but from what it sounds, The Beta Band is an experimental rock band who use all kinds of musical styles in their work.

Beck: He rules. He uses so many musical styles in his work, too.

Chemical Brothers: Back with another of those block rockin' beats!

Daft Punk: They are teh win. Robotic techno that puts Daft Punk in the ranks of Kraftwerk and Aphex Twin.

LCD Soundsystem: They had the pleasure of having Daft Punk perform at their house.

Killing Joke: Hmm. Sounds similar to NIN, but leaning towards heavy metal instead of industrial.

Sigur Ros: A while ago I bought ( ) because of its chilled-out, ambient rock.

Franz Ferdinand: I have their self-titled debut, it's quite good. I'm looking forward to their new one.

Air: I enjoy Talkie Walkie very much. Great album.

Tonedeff: Some great hip-hop with moments of chilled-out pieces in between.

Sole: Reminds me of Sage Francis somehow. Nice.

Doseone: cLOUDDEAD = win. Also his track with Aesop, "Drawbridge", has this nice eerie feel.

DJ Shadow and RJD2: Shadow and RJ rule. Amazing stuff. Can't choose which one is better.

Tonedeff is Great. Sole sounds a lot like Sage, I can understand why you'd think that. Sage learnt a lot of his shit from Sole, which might explain it.

I'm totally with you on the Shadow/RJD2 thing though. They're both too good. I think Shadow is probably more consistantly good than RJ, but RJs best tracks are probably some of my favourite hip hop songs in the world, so.

Ah, I just heard "Exorcism" off Pandemonium and it sounded quite industrial. On second listen, Killing Joke doesn't sound much like NIN but rather some good heavy metal.

Yeah, I was going to say Shadow is just a bit better than RJ, but I couldn't ignore some of RJ's purely brilliant tracks.

Interpol and Bloc Party: Some great British rock right here.

The Prodigy: I have Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned and I really like its style of rock-techno with a touch of industrial.

Decemberists: Some nice indie-rock here.

The Black Keys: Ooh! Guitar-rock blues. Not bad at all!

And Franz Ferdinand's new album just came out. I like it.

try big guns, by rory gallagher. absolutely fantasticly talented, has a kind of rock with a bit of blues mixture

also, id go for City of Evil, by Avenged Sevenfold. kind of metal riffs and stuff, but high vocals, fairly unique as far as i can tell, but then again i could be wrong.

Rory Gallagher: Nice. I like it. It's the kind of stuff that my friends listen to.

Avenged Sevenfold: Nice punk metal. It's not usually my style but I like it. I like the high-pitched vocals.
