This is What I wanted. Small, Compact, Portable.
Nintendo has announced that the USB Wi-Fi adapter will be available in the US on November 14, the same day Mario Kart DS is released. For those who don't have a wireless Internet connection, the adapter can plug in to a computer's USB port to create a Wi-Fi connection with the DS. The price is still unknown for North America, but Nintendo Europe will be selling the adapter for 30 pounds ($53).
Using its internal wireless functionality, the DS will be able connect to any wireless hot spot that is Nintendo Wi-Fi-enabled without a Wi-Fi adapter. It will use friends lists (theinquirer.net reports that users will be given 12-digit codes rather than names), and it will work for international competition. Further details are expected to come shortly.
Online play for the DS will be free for first-party Nintendo games, such as Animal Crossing: Wild World and Metroid Prime Hunters. It will be up to third-party publishers to decide whether to charge for online play in their games.
Of other interest to DS owners is the ever-expanding list of games in development for the handheld. Though Nintendo showed several games that were previously announced, it did announce some new ones--none of which have been announced for North America--that could surprise some fans.
What do you think? I personally think this is a great thing. We finally have a date, price and such. Im a little concerned about if there is lag, or am I just insane?
There are quite a few things coming out on the 14th (my berfday), how convenient.
What games are there that are wi-fi enabled?
Well Mario Kart Obviously, Hunters will be, and so will that mario basketball game.
If this is released at £30, i might just buy a router. Seems abit expensive just for a dongle.

You'll always have lag, though chances are it won't be because of the Wi-Fi element of it, as we're talking between around 1mbps to 108mbps - i'd say that's plenty of a DS game. It'll probably come down to the netcode in the game; I remember when a Quake 3 Arena patch came out - the networking code was overhauled and pings on dialup dropped by fifty. I'd say lag is more of a developer issue on this one. Unless games start including online play, rather than just multiplayer within wi-fi range, I don't think lag will be a huge issue.
In completley unrelated news, I was thinking about buying a Game Boy Colour yesterday for twelve quid. I need to play Daikatana on it. Now.
I heard from Edge online that the UK adapter is coming out on 25th of november! probably packedged with mariokart ds or something. it'll be fun though.

*sneaks up behind da-geezer with a straight jacket, knocks him unconscious and drags him away to the loony bin*
Nobody with any sanity *wants* to play Daikatana.

Isn't this just a generic wireless network adapter with a Nintendo stamp on it? Why are people excited, did I miss something?
The price is pretty reasonable though, so I'm not saying it's a con or anything.
In related news, my uni just announced they're putting a few wireless hotspots in libraries and canteens, hooray! On the downside you have to register your MAC address and I fear they might ask questions like "you aren't going to be just playing games with this, are you?".

It's already been mentioned on here before, but it seems appropriate:

£14.99 - bargain.

You missed something. People without wireless network adapters will simply be able to plug this into their USB port. Plus it will probably be easier to set the DS up on this than a standard wireless router.

oh good. i already have a wireless thing, but i'm pretty sure it'll be very complicated setting it up because of it being all secure or whatever... i'll probably get one...

I also have a secure wireless network, but nintendo have promised to make any connecting to the internet quick and easy. I just hope it is...
In completely unrelated news, the microphone on my ds just gave up (warioware touched). Now I'm annoyed.

Fair enough. Hopefully I'll get it working with my existing wireless router, there's already way more wireless adapters in this house than we need.
On the subject of bundles, i wouldn't be surprised if shops start selling the adapter in there own unnoficial bundles.
I can see why they haven't included it as standard though, as not everyone will need it.

Take it in. Should be covered by warenty if you've had it less than a year.

i know... all they really do is translate, and they take their time about it. they try to advertise, but how on earth do they plan to get people to get nintendogs with a voice like that?
A delayed game is eventually good, a rushed game will be bad forever.
Quit your whining. You can wait two weeks can't you?
