i was thinking about it quake the other day and realized how great a game it really is, though i haven't played it in ages. so do any of you people play it? will quake 4 be better? discuss:
I think the Quake needs improvement. Halo 2, in nearly all aspects, blew it out of the water. I bet my shiny penny that Quake 4 will have adopted a lot of things Halo 2 has brought into play. The thing is, in Quake 3, you had more of a scale of weapons that go from good to bad, and in Halo 2, all weapons had scenarios where they would be the best to use.

Quake 3 Arena was, as the name suggests, arena-based. I was disappointed that there was no story line in this one, but Quake 4 is again storyline based.
I just hope id haven't made the system requirements as high as Doom 3, or I won't be able to get it.
I wish they put the Quake 2 style console codes back in. Quake 3's were a PIA.
Hopefully the DM and CTF will be good too. I love CTF. There better be a grapple for use with it.
And also I can't wait to see what kind of mods people come out with for this, if it's moddable like Quake 2.
Edit: To be honest, Quake 3 really sucked, in my opinion. I want bigger maps where I can hide around the corner in maybe a couple secret spots to snipe. How about some outdoor maps?!! Quake 4 will definitely own Quake 3.

You can't compare Q3 to Halo2, they're completely different games.
Q3 is what I'd call a bloodbath game. It's constant, full on, close up action, you need to be absolutely hyper to play it. I've played Q3 so hard that it's made me dizzy and I've literally fallen off my chair after the match is over.
Halo2 on the other hand is much more planned and distant. It's much more common for people to play more strategically, whereas Q3 tends to be full on run and shoot.

there are some big maps. i just don't know if i'll like 4 just because it's storyline based. i don't know if 4 will be better than 3 just because 3 is a solid and moddable game. i just have to say that it has the best gameplay i have ever experianced in a PC game.

fo shizzle mi nizzle.
Quake III is a cracking game, even though I haven't played it for ages. It excels on nearly every level; graphically it still contains code that is light years ahead of anything still being churned out, gameplay wise it was one of the first to capitalise on the multiplayer concept, and longetivity wise the Quake engine has always been popular and easy to develop for. A shedload of modern games still run on the Q3A engine.
This game will be around for a while yet, to my knowledge they still use it in the CPL tournaments, it's still massively popular online. I still have a gripe over lpb connections though; it was infinitley better when dial-up was still king, added a whole new hybrid dimension of luck and skill to the game. Broadband connections shift the balance from foresight to reflex.
Still, if anyone's up for a game, I'd join in!
