This is why i don't have my Nikon D1x anymore. there was dust on the sensor and as i cleaned it, the surface of the sensor got chipped somehow. i was quite annoyed. so my advice is to get it done professionally, luckily my D1x was still under warrenty and i got my money back.
It may cost you around £10-15 but it's better than ruining a £800 camera.

Unfortunately i've been told if you send it back to Canon they just use a blower, and more times than not the cameras come back with more dust on them than before, which is why i'm using the hands on approach as suggested as the best way to do it here...

They are sitting on a fancy black plate my mum has in her house. The whole thing is a centre piece on a table. The flash showed up quite well against it.
I was out in the West End of Glasgow today, which in my opinion is the nicest end. (not saying much) And it does have a few good photo oppertunities. I have a few but don't want to triple/quadriple post, so I will ration them for now. But first off, in a city famous for it's statues, here's my favourite. In memory of Glaswegian cartoonist Bud Niell, most famous for his creation Dobbie the Sheriff, pictured.

And here's another strange statue. Erected outside the University of Glasgow four years ago when the Huterian Museum nearby was doing a huge dinosaur thing. It was only meant to stay up a few months, but it's still here. And you can see it confusing all the foreign students and tourists.

1.3" @ f/8
This is what boredom + new camera does to you :D
Minolta Dimage Z2, yeah!
I presume the Z2 is the next model up from my lowly Z1.
kebab?
06-07-2004, 12:59 PM
Yeah. It's not all that different. I only went for Z2 because... erm... i dunno why.
but it's 4mp instead of 3.2 and can focus closer when using the super macro feature (2 or 3 cm from the front of the lens i think). only problem is that the lens is now 2.8-3.7, instead of 2.8-3.5 (i think that was what the z1 was.. right?)
Oh, i keep meaning to ask you... do you think that the wide angle converter is worth the money? being a poor person (well, i am now!) i don't want to throw some money down and not being happy with it.
The z1 has pretty impressive super macro.
This was taken using the super macro, with the lens about 3cm from the playing card. Left picture is the full thing, right is an actual pixel crop.
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pjh64/PICT2451.jpg http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pjh64/PICT2451a.jpg
Then these were taken using a +4 close up filter. Again, full thing and actual pixels.
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pjh64/PICT2453.jpg http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pjh64/PICT2453a.jpg
They aren't the greatest photos, but should be good enough to get the idea.
I've got a wide angle converter, and the one thing about it that annoys me is that due to it's size you can't use the onboard flash with it.
One thing that I would recomend is that adapter tube. This comes with the wide angle (it's how it attaches) but is available separately. Basically it screws on over the lens so that when it is fully extended it is just inside an extension to the case. This lets you use 52mm filters to your hearts content. But not with the wide angle filter without getting a little bit of vignetting.
kebab?
06-07-2004, 02:06 PM
I found an adapter kit on ebay, which was the adapter ring, 2 52mm filters (a UV and a polarizer) and a petal shaped lens hood. was like £20 but the seller was from Hong Kong, so it would have cost about £20 for P+P.
Heh... the bug didn't want his picture taken...

redria,
i think you missed the concept of this thread. it's more for just really cool, pretty,or odd things you take pictues off on that day. pics of you sleeping can go in the pics of you thread in the hottub, and there is also a pics of your cat thread.
/edit the cross pic is quite nice, still would be nice to resize them.
your pics are also quite large and i have a decent conenction at work and those links ground me to a halt. please try resizing them. if perchance your pic happenes to be a gif...here is a nifty free online pic editing site. gifworks (http://www.gifworks.com./cgi-bin/gifworks.pl?com=transfer_open) i have used this extensively.
i found this jpeg one but i have not tried it. jpeg editor (http://www.jpegwizard.com/)
and here is a link to supposedly free photoediting programs. Top 6 Free Photo Editors for Windows (http://graphicssoft.about.com/cs/imageediting/tp/freephotoedw.htm)
so no whining that you cannot afford photoshop:)
/edit. you now what, i was trying to be nice. your pics are fairly unremarkable. pre i am far from a good photographer, but i am choosy about what pics i post in this thread. i wasn't being mean, and i'm biting my tongue now, but your pics are fecking huge and i'm glad they don't display on the page.

I didn't take this today, sorry, but this is one of my best photos. This was taken last winter as the sun was setting at the military institute I work for. I really like the contrasts, and the way the lines in the road and sidewalk draw your eyes to the barracks.

Most digital cameras have a macro function that allows you to go much closer to the subject. It is usually a little flower on a particular button..
You're probably going to tell me that is taken in macro now :/

My camera has been a bit funked recently. The battery doesnt hold it's charge properly and the lenses have been going a bit funny when doing landscapes. So I thought I would test the macro. This is a tribute to the men (and women) who died during WW1 and 2 in a small village in the middle of nowhere. i like this picture, and for not looking at the screen when taking the pic, i think it's framed quite nicely :)

I'm off up to Scotland soon, so expect many nice holiday snaps when I get back. I'm hoping for a nice clear day up Ben Nevis, but am not optimistic!

This is exactly how it is straight off the camera, no photoshop, no in-camera toning, just a pretty crazy storm and the sun. :)
(the storm would explain the rain spots on the window)
