You will love it. It's so beautiful up there!
Oh yes indeedy. I'll post some proper pictures soon, but this road amused me.

Ok, I'm going to spare you all a megapost and feed you some of the better holiday snaps slowly.
Here's the first, taken half way up Ben Nevis.

Staying on topic, I though that I would share my first pic with you. It is of my son, taken at Orlando's Seaworld. He is standing in an underground viewing area, mesmerised by some dolphins.
edit - Whoops, just read about the 'on the day you take it' rule...sorry! (What if you can't and you post it when you get back from hols?)

what a cool pic. you can't really see the glass, so it looks like your son is standing on the threashold of an aqua forcefield.
i can't wait to move to orlando, seaworld will be one of the first places i go. i used to love sea world when i was little.
'nother holiday pic. This one was looking back inland from the ferry across to Skye.

Phew, thats ok then. No, these pics are this year, not 20 ago. Taken on a brilliant holiday where Seaworld was the highlight. We did seven parks in two weeks, had to come home for a rest! :)
You get to live in Orlando? Thassnofair...
I tried to get this picture of the dolphins with my son in the image too. Didn't work though. Taken in the same area as the first pic was anyway. If Dolphins have to be kept in captivity, then this was the best place they could have been given.
And that line about the aqua forcefield was beautiful.
Edit - I have created a website to put my pictures on. I have been meaning to do this for a while, so now I can put up the actual pictures, and not just a link to my attachments...

This is a pic of some of the flooding that the hurricane caused. It looks like that because it was taken out of a window.
Been trying to play with lighting indoors. This was taken using my Fuji S700. I pointed my flash (using a sync cable) at a gold reflector that was placed opposite the subject. I used some diffuser on the flash. A white board was also used.
It didn't quite work and the focal point is off. Meh.

Went for a wander up to a church near Wormit in Fife, Scotland. The church sits on a hill and is floodlit - made for some interesting shots. Annoyed the second one is blurry, but such is life.
The shots were taken on my Olympus E20 Digital SLR, and are simply resized, no editing.

Ok, I need some opinions. Is this frame too big for the picture in it? You've got to try and picture it mounted properly rather than just slapped in there; I just did that to get a feel for the size.
http://www.srcf.ucam.org/~pjh64/PICT2861.jpg
[edit]Unfortunately the photo in the frame isn't one of mine, it's by Micheal MacGregor. You can see it, and many many more stunning pics, on his website http://www.michael-macgregor.co.uk/ . That pic is Carn Mor Dearg and Ben Nevis.

I am a sucker for a sunset. Taken 7.15 this evening. Thats my Eucolyptus, that is.
Nice photo. It seems a little bit 'noisy' though, do you know if your camera has variable ISO settings? If it does you might want to try using a lower ISO setting, so the camera is less sensitive (ie longer exposures) but you get less grainyness.
Don't misunderstand me, it is a very nice photo (and justly added to my daily photo screensaver); I'm just trying to give constructive comments.
Jasmic
15-09-2004, 05:13 PM
Constructive comments always acceptible. :)
The pic was taken with a little digital zoom, an Olympus Camedia C50Z, hand held on the spur of the moment. I had walked out into my garden to look at some work that had been done, spotted the sunset, got the camera and took it.
I shall have a look at the instructions to see if I can change the iso, and play with the settings if it lets me, then show you the result. I do have a tripod to allow the longer exposures, only prob is it is a huge Benbo, and the dinky liddle camera on it does look a bit daft!
To be honest up until now I hadn't really tried to use the camera for anything better than family snaps. However I have almost £1k sitting aside for the express purpose of buying a digital SLR, probably a Canon Eos as I already have the lenses to go with the body.
EasyTiger

Get the Canon 20D ;)
Jasmic
15-09-2004, 05:57 PM
:nana: Unfortunately the 20D is the wrong side of my £1k! I am looking at the 300D, it should be more than enough for my purposes, looking at the specs, and I can afford to replace the nice wide angle lens I lost in Cyprus too.
EasyTiger
15-09-2004, 06:43 PM
I have the 300D and it is lovely, but i'd get the 10D instead if that's the case. The 10D body only is on 7dayshop.com for £800 now. More features than 300D and a metal body.

I have the 300D and it is lovely, but i'd get the 10D instead if that's the case. The 10D body only is on 7dayshop.com for £800 now. More features than 300D and a metal body.
Ta for the tip. Only prob is, I am now torn. The 10D is a lovely camera, but isn't it too good for a hobbyist like me? Do I risk getting something that has already been superceded by the 20D? Damn good price though, and the cheapest I have seen the 300D too (which doesn't make the choice any easier...) What makes you think I should get the 10D as a 300 owner?

I've just lent me little Digi Ixus to some friends whilst they're holiday. Having withdrawal symptoms and they've only had it for 18 hours :yarr:
I was seriously thinking about getting a new one anyway, (as my bro's just got one and i'm insanley jelous of it :p [Lo Bro, nice pic btw])
I've just been given some money from a scholarship thingy wassit. But now i've got the money I don't know wether to spend most of it on a 300D, or save some cash and get an S60 too). Gaah!
any thoughts welcome (P.S. - also a poor student)

new camera (well actually its my mum but the odd bit of borrowing may go on). The olympus 5060 wide zoom. The menu sustem is a bit confusing and it seems to have little wheel to cycle through options and arrow keys for others which seems a little silly but the pictures themselves once its all set up isnt bad. Did this at ISO 80 equivelent which is so nice because my kyocera wouldnt have prduced anything at that and hence I got quite grainy images in comparison.

I know that this isn't a conversation thread, and having no pictures makes people mad, but I just thought that I would tell you that my EOS 300D has arrived from Amazon....without the memory card. :nana: What is the point of that? And why do Canon sell it without a card included in the box anyway? Doesn't make sense. So, as soon as I can I shall be posting here again.
EasyTiger
05-10-2004, 06:21 PM
I don't see why any manufacturers put a memory card in with digital cameras because they're pretty much worthless. You may get 6 images on one then have to buy a bigger one anyway. Whats the point?
Btw, the 300D was always supplied without a memory card unless you specifically order one with it. All DSLRs do.

Tonight my uni house mates and i decided to burn all our empty boxs as they did not fit in the bin and bournemouth dustbin men will not take any rubbish that causes a bin to not close. Anyways we started with a little pile of cardboard which we then increased and dumped an entire box on top of. This seemed to have a funnel effect and once it caught alight we ended up with about 8ft flames, singed hair and a partially melted shoe. The flame effects however were amazing as these photos hopefully show.
edit: due to limitations can only show two pics thus shown pic with box over fire and subsequent funnel effect of fire
