I can't believe no-one has spoken about this yet. The video for Green Day's new single 'Jesus of Suburbia' premiered in the UK last night on Channel 4. It was a world exclusive.

Did anyone else watch it? It seems an odd song to release as a single since its 9 minutes long. The video in its shortest form is about 6 or 7 minutes, so they cut out some of the lyrics although you don't really notice. There is a full length version of the video which is about 15 minutes long, although that hasn't been shown anywhere yet.

People are saying this is Green Day's best ever (and most ambitious) video. Billie Joe even joked it was the new Thriller.

I thought the video was really good, but it took a few viewings (I taped it) for me to appreciate it. It really helps you understand the story behind the album better. The acting is really good, although the version Channel 4 showed didn't have any dialogue.

You can download the video here (taken from the tv airing):

It's one of the best songs on the album, but the problem lies in the fact that you have already stated: it's 9 minutes long.

Kerrang! radio among names have cut it to the short length of 6 and a half minutes, but you don't get a feel of how good the song is if it isn't in its entirety, and that's where the video is probably let down.

I haven't seen it yet, but I'll download it and give it a look

I haven't seen this yet, though there's timeslots on MTV, TMF et al that range from five to twenty minutes long so I'll catch it tonight.

I don't think its gonna be on any music channels for a while yet. The video isn't being shown in America til the 25th October (which is why I'm impressed we in the UK got a sneak peak).

I love the song but was deeply disapointed by the video.
It told a story, normally that is a good thing but this was not the case. It was a story of a weirdo messing up his life then leaving the family. It stayed true to the lyrics, but I felt more could have been included. Most of the video was just creating the characters background to make you feel for the character at the end. Compared to the likes of Walking Contradiction it is a poor effort which I feel would have been better if it didn't follow the lyrics all the time.

According to my sister (she ended up watching it last night, much to me dad's dismay - he hates them, you see) it was on C4, and then on TMF, VH2 and The Box more or less simultaneously.

It's on tonight on TMF at 11.45pm, and might just be the full video (it's a 15 min timeslot).

I'll probably get slated for this but it's actually one of the few tracks on the album that I skip when im listening to it. *flinches*

I'm sure the video will be amazing though.

It's quite noticible where it's cut on the six minute version, likely due to the way the song is presented.

Or maybe i've heard it too many times or something.

I'm not really sure about it really. It seems abit messy in places.

Well, I saw the six minute version and... I'm sure the full video's good but it's been hacked to bits, both the vid and the song. Only at the end does it gain a decent pace and make any bit of sense. Still, it's a great song, even if the editing people stiched two lyrics together.

judging by the video (which i just watched on tape) the movie looks set to be good. can't wait to see tim armstrong as JoS and it confirms my idea that JoS and St. Jimmy are on and the same as he tags JoS first then when it's repainted he tags St. Jimmy, who is this new badass persona he has now adopted
