View Full Version : RobW's Sister Screws It All Up Again...
Everytime I leave my shockingly dumb sister on the computer without attempting to shoo her off, she goes and does something stupid on it.
Today was one of her worst days. Maybe as bad as the day she deleted MSPaint and I had to get it sent through email.
Number one, yet again, she's deleted the computer's history as in, you have to type in URLs again, usernames, etc. But that's not the thing I'm on about right now.
She's screwed it up so that I can't see half the images and html on a web layout. All of weebls-stuff seems to be fine. But, for exxample, Last.Fm looks terrible, check this shizz out:

Terrible, isn't it? Can anyone tell me how to restore this webpage problem to be its usual fuzziness?
Thank yous to everyone who can help.
Has she turned off load web images on tools-options-web features?
No, I checked there, she hasn't :\

Make sure javascript is enabled, quick glance at the source suggests the layout relies heavily on javascript.

Has the page style been set to "No Style"? Should be like this:

Yeah, I have Java and Javascript enabled, I thought something to do with the languages would be involved, but it isn't. Thanks for all your hints though.
edit: I still have that on too. This is mysterious.

Have you scanned for adware, spyware and viruses?
Good point. My sister seems to have disabled my dear Anti-Virus.

WHEREZ DA FILEZ AT??? </laffo>
Initially it would suggest the graphics are disabled as was first said; is Firefox running in some sort of "safe mode"? Try switching the profile by launching firefox with the -profilemanager flag on the command line. Could be a duff profile?
Can you give me n00b instructions on how to do this sir? I have no idea what you're on about, no offense...

Start --> Run--> firefox.exe --profilemanager
See what comes up. If it's not on default profile then that's the problem... if I understand da-geezer correctly.
When you use it that way it just opens firefox...
what's this profilemanager you speak of?

woop, my apologies, I did mean to tell you how; it's slipped me mind :D
Mozzer is correct; in the same way that you can log in using different "users" in Windows XP, you can use different "profiles" in firefox which allows the browser to be tailored to a particular user. Now, I've been having difficulties trying to load the profile manager dialog recently too, so it may be just that it's been removed since v1.0 was released.
To cock around with this profile manager, close all open firefox windows (make sure you check there's nothing at all running, á la Ctrl+Alt+Del, checking the processes tab in Windows), then bring up a command line or something similar (for example, Start > Run in Windows) and type in the following:
firefox.exe -p
so that's firefox (dot) exe (space) (hyphen) p
That'll load the profile manager, where you can try creating a new profile. See if it works with this (be aware that it'll use the default settings), and if it does, you'll need to tweak the setup of your profile.
Hope this helps :)
It's WORKED!

Sorteeeeed!
You can do one of two things now; either track down the awry setting in the original profile, or set up the new profile as you used to have it. Either way, have fun!
Nah I'm ok, I've tailored it to the way I like. You've been helpful. Thanks, you've made my day, not just you, everyone who's helped me here :)
I don't want to track anything down right now as I have a splitting headache.

Are you using windows XP? If so, give her her own account, with virtually nothing changeable. Make sure you are teh admin.
If all else fails, try my good friends Mr. Padlock and Mr. Chain, particularly if you're using a notebook.
Yeah, she has her own account. But she made it somehow so I no longer have a password to access my user.
