Cheap base unit for you.
http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/products/index.html?action=c2hvd19wcm9kdWN0X292ZXJ2aWV3&product_uid=52086
Then a monitor.
This will pretty much suit you for general use e.g internet, word processing etc.
No way would you be able to buy anything that runs games for £250.
Total price: £242.82 Inc delivery.
thanks for your help mr chum. Looks good... what would i need to run games, should i want to kick noca's ass at CS?
Whats mandrake?

Mandrake = linux.
It shouldn't be too hard to install over, but I'm sure you could probably get something better custom built ¬__¬

If you custom configured that its a pretty good deal, it includes everything and will eat up cs:s.

Good CPU, although could go for a dual core 3800+ if you think you'd use it. RAM thats capable of doing more than the stock DDR400 speeds if you want to overclock. A very good motherboard, and an excellent value graphics card. Good Hard Drive, DVD-RW, nice case, and one of the best PSUs on the market. Could get more hard drive space if you fancied it, or play about in any other area with the spare money.
This is from www.overclockers.co.uk, although you may find it cheaper on www.ebuyer.com, haven't looked there, so I can't say.

Thanks a ton, that looks great, although id upgrade to the dual core, as I think pretty soon games are going to be dual core rendered.

Ive been advised to get a 'fututre proof' mobo, namely the ASRock S939 Athlon ULi m1695 ATX A L (http://www.dabs.com/productview.aspx?Quicklinx=3SYF&CategorySelectedId=11143&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11143,4294959021,50568&v=1) . Also, ive been told to 'insist its Socket 939'. What the hell?
MR CHUM CHUMS
21-10-2005, 01:19 PM
Socket 939 means that it will take more up to date Amd processors for when you want to upgrade it. E.g you buy a sempron processor now, then when you upgrade (e.g a amd dual core processor) you dont need to splash out on a new motherboard.
ok. Should I do this when nocash bulids my PC?

Depends whether you are considering updating it later. What spec are you looking at?

Semprons don't come in 939. The Sempron 64's come in 754. You'd be hard pushed to build a 939 PCI-E system for 300 quid.
