Now, I'm a small time fan of Irish music. I like the pogues, dropkick murphys, and stiff little fingers. but what I really like is the mandoliny stuff like in "sally maclennane" (pogues), (interlude of) "bastards on parade" and "shipping up to boston" (dkm), and in the 2nd half of the roaring boys (slf). Esp the intro to "shipping up to boston".
so, can anyone recommend me some good stuff, and what do other people think of it?

I would have said Dropkick Murphys were Irish-American personally. I like Riverdance heeee

I'm sad to say, I must be on me way
Don't buy me beer and whiskey
'cause I'm gone far away (FAR AWAY!)
I'd like to think I'll be returning when I can
To the greatest little boozer and
To Sally Maclennane

The pogues are utterly fantastic and so is a lot of Irish folk music (The Fields of Athenry, for example). Though I don't know much modern Irish music other than The Pogues and Ash, but the latter doesn't really count.
You need to check out some of:
The Real McKenzies
The Tossers
Blood or Wiskey
Flogging Molly

well i was tempted to go see millencolin and flogging molly in bristol but they cancelled the event. which fm album would you recommend?
The Real Mckenzies are Scottish (Canadian).
Yo, bro. Listen to Flatfoot 56! They are a lot like those bands mentioned above. They are folk punk/oi! from Chicago. They have bagpipes, mandolins, and all that crazy shit. I bought the CD and it is soo good. You definately should check those bros out. The song This Town has that mandolin stuff that you mentioned.

They're all good, but "Within a mile of home" is the best, in my opinion =)

If you're going to buy/download Flogging Molly get 'Drunken Lullabies', it's my favourite of their albums.
DKM I would hardly describe as 'Irish', their earlier stuff, yes, when they had more of an Oi! influence, but not so much now, they're just a punk band.
If you want real good Irish music, download some stuff by The Dubliners, they're very good.

imo their new stuff has a very irish punk feel to it (ie. warrior's code) and there are a few very irish songs on very album, even if the others aren't so
