I have a Logic3 Star Fighter joystick. This is a game port device that comes with a USB adaptor. I lost the adaptor, not a problem, I'll just plug it into the game port.

Except I don't have a game port.

Oh well, I found an expansion bracket with a gameport and 2 USB ports for 3 quid, bargain. So I hook it up, plug the ribbon cable into the gameport pins on the motherboard and the USB plug into the USB pins.

As far as I can tell, the USB works fine. However, I cannot get it to recognize the joystick at all.

I've scoured the internet for drivers, but apparently it uses standard microsoft drivers, so it should work.

I've tried add hardware with various combinations of generic gameports etc, and also looked at the BIOS to ensure game port is enabled (which it is)

Any ideas before I decide to just buy a new joystick?

Ignore this if you read it before I changed it. I need to learn to read.

Hmm. I can get it to recognize it's plugged in if I select it as a 2-axis, 4 button joystick (although this doesn't take the throttle control into account.).

However, when I go to test it, it doesn't really move at all, and is stuck in one quarter of the box. It then pops up a message telling me it isn't plugged in properly, and also reports that button 1 is being held down.

If I go to calibrate it, it's completely erratic, however I go through with it and then back to the test page, it stays in the middle except a few jumps to the far extremes, but when I move it the movement is reversed left and right, and it still pops up the "not plugged in correctly" dialog.

I can't test the joystick as I don't have another PC with a game port, so which do you think is more likely: The gameport/gameport settings is/are b0rked, or the joystick is b0rked?
