Right. I am in a spot of deep shit, and the shitsharks are encircling me. I can't swim very well in shit, being as it is very viscous, usually.
Thus, I require you to chuck me a hypothetical anti-shit lifejacket, please.
What's the sitch?
I have a PC. It's like any other PC, it has a 40 gig hard drive, of which 35 is full of porn of podcasts and stuff. Where my PC differs, is that most PCs work [to some extent].
This problem's been on and off for the past week, I considered making this thread 4 days ago, but now my Lost DVD box set's arrived and I want to watch them, the non-workingness of my PC has frustrated me too much.
Right, what happens when you turn the PC on is this :
It starts the usual booting-up routine, checking all the stuff in the black-background, DOS-style white text.
Y'know how then PCs [if they run XP] then show an XP window sign and a flashing bar underneath? Yeah, my PC doesn't do that. It stops on an entirely blank screen, and doesn't do any more no matter how much you leave it.
Occasionally it will load to the "pick a user and log on" stage [the bit with the bright blue background], and possibly you're able to not move the mouse at all, and restart in frustration.
Even rarer, you can log on and use the PC for a bit [rarely longer than half an hour]. Then the whole thing freezes, you have to restart, and the cycle happens all over again.
I have the following nuggets of information that may or may not be relevant [I'm not sure, I'm not that techy-minded] :
When the PC froze last week for the first time, the CPU usage was hovering around the 80% mark, and was at 65% when doing nothing. I'm pretty sure this is way too high.
The PC will not boot into safe mode, choosing "restore to last known good settings" doesn't make any difference, actually getting it working and system-restoring to before the problem started didn't help either. Yes, I'm aware that many here view System Restore as the devil incarnate, but I'm trying everything
My father [the slaphead] is insistent I've got a virus from the wild internets, but I don't think so. I dunno what's wrong though, otherwise I'd've fixed it.
Please help / offer suggestions. This is really screwing up my ability to watch porn do my uni essays :p
edit - I'm posting from another PC, not during one of the half hour miracles
