Proxies? How can I get all my connections to run on proxies... help plaize

I can get Firefox to run using proxies, but how can I config all my connections to use proxies?

Most programs in Windows will look at Internet Explorer's proxy settings, so just go set the proxies in there.

Programs that work independantly of Windows configuration settings in IE usually have there own place to put proxy settings in.
Are you running the machine on a network that actually has a proxy server? (work, college etc.)
