View Full Version : Zango?

My sister's friends have been at it again. There is a new orange and blue icon in the taskbar. When I clicked on it it goes to www.zango.com, which is a games site, and gives me a warning saying something called zango.exe is trying to access the internet from the computer. I block this, and it seems to pop up a couple more times before giving up.

It's probably not harmful, but it annoys me that there is something on the computer that I don't know what it is, and that my sister's friends, I guess, have allowed something to download probably without asking, and certainly without telling anyone what it is.

Any ideas?

Spybot, Adaware, add/remove programs blah blah. I assume you've tried the obvious?

No, I haven't touched it at all. Thanks for reminding me about Ad-aware though, it's been ages since I ran it. I'll do it now :)

EDIT- Hasn't helped :( Spybot didn't pick it up, and I was never actually shown how to use Ad-aware, but that didn't seem to get it either.

It's just irritating more than anything else.

Does this help? http://www.f-secure.com/sw-desc/zango.shtml

It doesn't seem to tell you how to get rid of it but it does give some clues as to what to look for on your system.

Go Start > Run and run msconfig. Then look in the Startup tab for Zango or something pertaining to it (which is where the link comes in handy) and uncheck it. If you can find it, that should stop it running at least.

Oh, and did you make sure to update Adaware and Spybot before running them? ;)

Thanks Dougie, I'll try that. Tomorrow. It's 1.48am, and I can't be arsed with fixing computers at this time :p

Zango is in fact spyware.

You might want to tell your sister to get rid of it ASAP and learn to use some other kind of program for IMs (like AIM or MSN).

Zango is a games site\messenger but it is spyware at the same time, from what I've read on the internet. So just get rid of it. :)

My sister uses MSN messenger anyway, I think it was probably her friends who visited the zango.com games site and that's where it came from.

I'll try updating Spybot etc soon.

One other thing: I found where it is in the C drive, I suppose it'd be too much to hope that deleting zango.exe would get rid of it?

EDIT- Updating hasn't worked either. There were no updates available for Ad-aware and two of the three Spybot updates failed to download or something.

Look in add/remove programs like Al said in his first post, it could be there.

Failing that, try this; http://www.zango.com/about/faqs.aspx

Yes, google is mine and your friend. ¬.¬

I got something called 'Zango' on my computer a couple of months ago. I got it whilst browsing for porn. Maybe your sisters friends are hiding something?

:fluffle: ?

Nothing they ever do could surprise me.

Anyway, the add/remove programs thing worked, I missed it in the first post

Thanks for your help everyone, and sorry I'm such an ignoramus when it comes to fixing stuff on computers :p
