I was just wondering if anyone could help me with my problem.

Yesterday I was browsing the internet when suddenly my mouse stopped working. I could still move the cursor around but my left click wouldn't work at all. I did the obvious thing of restarting, removing the mouse from the port, replacing it, etc, but it still wouldn't work.

Eventually I ended up making my left mouse button my right, so I could manoever around my computer pretty easily. I came back on today to find that neither button is working properly now. I tried to do the reverse button thing again but it really isn't working.

I can still move the cursor and scroll but that's it.

I'm at my wits end here because I really can't be bothered to go to town all on my lonesome to buy a new mouse, plus I have a lot of work to do and a media poster which I need to use a mouse for.

As I said, I tried a good old restart and remove and replace but it's still not working.

Any suggestions? Any help would be very much appreciated.

Oh and it's a wired, roller ball mouse.

Take the mouse apart and see if there's any gunk in the button-switches?

Plug in another mouse from somewhere and see if it works, or see if your mouse will work in another computer?

How on earth did you navigate through this forum without the mouse? You must have pressed Tab about a gazillion times.

Ohh yes. ¬_¬ It's really annoyin actually and I can't talk to anyone on msn either because I can't open the windows.

I think think it's a bit strange how it just started for no reason. I was literally browsing a website when it stopped responding, then this happened.

well if youve been doing what i do when im annoyed at my pc which is smashing the mouse on the table the wires could of come loose, if not then your mouse is messed and youll probably need a new one.

Is your mouse wireless? Does it require any drivers?

If the answer is yes, I suggest changing the batteries for a wireless mouse, reinstalling the drivers, and reconnecting the mouse (again if wireless) using the reset button usually on the bottom of the mouse.

Looks like this could be the time to upgrade to a shiny new optical mouse. The microswitches used in the buttons are probably shagged anyway and they'd need to be replaced, which would require removing them and soldering new ones in. One trip down to $localcomputerstore and £5 later and you have a nice new shiny rodent with working buttons and everything.

Is your mouse wireless?Oh and it's a wired, roller ball mouse.

I'm gonna go with the take it apart and give it a clean option. I had a similar problem once before and it was indeed a microswitch problem. If that's what you work out it is (do the buttons seem any lower these days? Take the mouse apart - does it work when you press the switches with your finger?), you may be able to do a horribly temporary solution and fold up a bit of paper above each microswitch so the button pushes on the paper pushes on the switch.

Otherwise, it's new mouse time. They do scroll mice in my local pound store so you really don't have much excuse :p

Heh, I was looking at the thread, then went off to cook, then replied when I came back...I think that was edited in while I was away :p

Omh...new mouse! ^_^

It's so sensitive and the pretty red light will keep me amused/blinded for weeks to come.

Thanks for the help, everyone.

Or maybe it's just optical?

indeed.
i was just thinking that all the optical mice sold around here are of the microsoft persuasion, then it occurred to me that "around here" doesn't exactly apply generally.

Oi, I have a Microsoft Wireless Intellimouse Explorer, and it's actually very nice (although sucks the life out of rechargeable batteries faster than a Danish whore sucks...other things)

I've got me a Siemens biometric mouse; not a bad mouse, not a good mouse. It's got a horrible way of scrolling up or down one notch when you scroll-click; meaning that you might open the Besterest Threads forum when you meant to middle click General Pap.

Twatting about with the fingerprint shit is great fun, thought it does mean you have to disable fast-user switching before it does any real good for you. Sod that :D

Actually, I liked it so much I bought two of them. One on its own and another when I bought the MX3100 cordless desktop.

I am a fellow logitech optical mouse user, although I nicked mine from school back in Year 11.
