Dont know how to google search this so im askin here.
Recently my brothers been takin the piss by downloading all day and all night for the past week. He doesn't intend to stop soon and we cant force him.
In short, is there a way we can split the connection speeds between our computers so he doesnt take all of it.
We're on a 512k connection and we're upgrading to 1mb soon. There are 5 computers on the network. So we'd like to be able to give certain computers faster speeds at certain times.

I've had the same problem on my network - some of my housemates have left the house with their computers on downloading stuff and fucked up the speed for everyone else. What I've done is turn Access Control for the router on and added everyone to it. Then if anyone starts taking the piss, I just delete them from the access list and they can't do anything at all.
Then when they get back, I give them an earbashing and tell them to cap their speeds. I've even set up the router so I can do this remotely, from another computer, using the power of the int0rwub.

heh, i was at a mates house and his brother started downloading rvb movies (yuk) and so we unplugged him from the router. It took him a while to figure out why the net wasnt working.
but yeah, your router might have a built in function (if you have one) to limit speeds.
