usergroups only work if:

a) they already have a big following > The Cause of the Giant Hams, later renamed to Yams was created like this
b) they have someone who is willing to put LOTS and LOTS of time into keeping it alive and making it fun > Jams became a group like that and Yams exists still because it has dedicated users that continuously think of new ideas (thanks guys :))

Groups don't work:
A) when they seem good ideas but don't have a user or mod to keep them alive
B) if there aren't users that want to really contribute
On the last forum we had an animation/photoshop group for a while but it died due to lack of entries and users.
HOCAS has taken it's place mainly and is much better, because we all like to show off and not hide our work in a hidden group.

So, usergroups need:
1) a good idea that can go different ways
2) users that feel attracted to it and want to contribute
3) leaders that are not afraid to enforce rules

If those aren't there it won't work...
