To be honest, all I've ever known about the sport is when the say "allez!" at the start of each round.

Very smooth.

"allez!"???

I think your getting confused with "En Garde".....even then, we dont say that very often. At the start of the match, we salute (a salute that involves "kissing the blade") and then its into the En Garde position.

I was wondering about what would be my best secondary weapon. I mean, ive been using the foil for a while now and im beginning to look at the other two blades.

Hello, I have been fencing for about 3 years.
a) mr. geez, it's Engarde, Ready, Fence before each play (eg after an off target, point or at the start of a match :))

2) I've fenced a little sabre, which I found rather boring. Haven't tried it as of yet, but Epeé looks to be rather good, but also very very difficult to avoid hits (target area being the whole body, incl. mask :/)

iii. Lew, shap :p I only got beaten 15-6 by a GBR fencer the other day ¬____¬

Thats a decent score there! More so against a GBR fencer.

I only started fencing in september at my university. And hopefully, I'll be taking part in compertitions soon (look out for the UBU Fencing Falcons! UBU= University Of Bradford Union).

Ive had a couple of matches using epeé, true, its more difficult to avoid been hit, but you do need to be hit quite hard to score a point.

And yeah, sabre is quite boring, unless your up aginst somone who is smaller that you, then you just need to parry, and hit them on the head.

I won the match just by doing that :D

heh, i've no idea; I remeber watching the Olympic competition in Atlanta in 1996, and they always used to say "Allez!" at the start of a round.

However, it could have been a very enthusiastic Frenchman :)

I beat him 2-0 yesterday, so thus argument is void.

Fencing is somthing I've always wanted to take up ... however with all my college and farm work to be done the only fencing I do is to keep the sheep in :(

Not really. You still are yet to score positive points in my quiz. And chimp is yet to score minus. One time he wasnt there for half of it. Yet he still got a good 80 odd more points than you :P

thus you lose to chimp

I fence Epee and this year i managed to qualify for the Nationals U16s in February so wish me luck.

And a few weeks ago a U18 GBR Epeeist only beat me 15-12

Im thinkin about takin up the epee, but im not sure.....A friend of mine is a really good fencer, and according to him the sabre (sp?) is much better. I've seen a few matches, and the sabre ones are much more interesting to watch.

I tried both epee and sabre, but went back to foil and stuck with it... a long, long time ago ¬_¬

I recommend using the Epee because i love it dearly and also the lovely sound when two hit together.
