I did a search but I couldnt find anything on this, which did surprise me slightly...

I went into the cinema expecting to see an exciting and funny war movie with people getting bullets through their head, if you are going to see this movie and are expecting to see what I was, dont... Its nothing like that at all.

Its about this one man who joins the marnins because there is nothing else for him to do in the real world, but as he stays there longer the more he regrets joining. These marnins are in the desert and are going into a war against Saddam Hussain. It shows the truth that some people face when they go to war in the real world and some of the situations they get into.
You basically see them walking around a desert for a while doing different things, so if your wanting to see peoples heads being blown off you will be a bit dissapointed since the only bit where you see someone die is at the beginning when someone cant take it anymore, he then stands up and dies on the barbed wire.
... If you do see thins movie expect A LOT of swearing and some sex scenes... and if your into men then there would be quite a few bits that would be to your satisfaction.

Personaly I was a bit dissapointed but at the time I did want to see some action and people dying, but if you are into the whole real life stuff and watching a movie with a proper meaning of things then I would suggest you go and see it... Overall it was a good movie with some funny bits but it does not have much action in it at all.

this was an excellent film, personally I'm relieved that there can finally be a different side to war movies. The fact is that in many, more recent wars, troops can slug around the location for months and never see any action at all.

I had heard nothing about this film before I saw it other than it was by Sam Mendes who had already given a new insight on the hollywood affair angle (American Beauty) and the gangster genre (Road To Perdition). I was really impressed by this film and thoroughly enjoyed it.

oh and the cock and bum and naked jake didn't go amiss either (you get more in Brokeback Mountain though... of all three).

it was a little disjointed, but had lots of powerful moments.

the part with the horse/camel was beautiful.

This film is clearly inspired by vietnam movies, and it's opening 15 minutes basically is Full Metal Jacket.
However the concept of this film isn't just the futility of war, it's more the about the insanity of putting yourself in harms way, how without purpose, man is a shell and of course Jake G's prettyness.
It is a triumph, it is directed very very well and is visually incredible for a film set in a featureless desert.

Go Jarhead!

Look, It's like a Penis, But smaller!

great film... made me think more than just a normal war film. I also thought some of the scenery and settings were amazing. In the desert when the sky was dark... beautiful!
