Oh noes. I was giving them a quick clean last night when they decided to snap in two. Most annoying. However, the point of this thread. I've had that pair of glasses for a few years now, got them just before my 18th birthday, however, I'm not well over 18 and therefor I dont get free eye tests or lenses anymore, and, I'm rather poor.

Can anyone here who wears glasses recomend somewhere good, but not with stupidly high prices. I was with specsavers, because it was easy, but now I don't really have £150 odd lying around to replace them. Or is there a way of still getting them free? I am still a uni student with no job, hense lack of money.

Step 1. Find person wearing glasses

Step 2. Sneak up behind them

Step 3. Yoink!

Step 4. "It's Ok... I'm a student!"

Step 5. Non-blurry pornography!

You people think you can get away with anything.

Students are exempt from paying for stuff (in the same way as under 18s) via the magic of filling in a form (which I think was called an HCA3 when I was at Uni, 400 years ago)

I got to Silverberg Opticians. Not too pricey either, and during Easter and Xmas they have sales on

If there isn't one near you, I don't know...

if my memory serves me it's called a HC11 form and it not only entitles you to free eye tests, free lenses and a discount on frames, but also free prescriptions and dental treatment.

just call me the oracle, i'm a mine of useless information

Well well, that is useful. I certainly didn't know MSE had a glasses thread! I've got an eyetest booked for tommrrow so I can ask about not paying anything.. if you get my meaning.. if not I'll have a look at some of the sites MSE brought up.

Mucho Thanko to you all.

How d'ya manage that?

Sorry to quote the bastard thing, but it's like the Little Britain sketch with the Tory MP lying his arse off

"My pants happened to slip down, and I'm very sorry to say that a part of my body happened to enter his..." Oh come on!

I want the truth! *grabs protesting signs and stages a one man protest on your front garden*
