for those of you who expressed an interest in having a place where you can swap culinary tips and recipes this is the place for you. i will begin by wowing you with my recipe for peanut butter cookies (stolen shamelessly from a recipe book of my mum's that's older than me)

175g (6oz) unsalted butter
50g (2oz) crunchy peanut butter
100g (4oz) caster sugar
100g (4oz) soft brown sugar
1 egg
150g (5oz) plain flour
1/4 level teaspoon salt

1) mix the butter, sugars and egg together in a bowl, add the flour and salt a little at a time and mix to form a firm dough (more flour may be required if the butter is particularly soft)
2) make into 36 small balls and place on greased baking trays. make sure they are well spaced out as the cookies flatten and spread whilst cooking. flatten slightly with a fork, making a criss-cross pattern.
3) bake in a pre-heated oven at 190 decrees celsius/375 farenheit/gas mark 5 for 10-12 minutes. leave to cool before removing them from the trays as they will still be too soft. store in an airtight container.

here is the recipe for the jelly bean brownies that, in the hands of someone other than me, would probably turn out pretty good.

i stole it straight from some sunday newspaper or other. i think it mightve been the express, when they were doing those country music CDs. i have said too much.

Makes 16 (believe this with caution...they either dont eat much or i went more wrong than i thought)

225g unsalted butter
225g self-raising flour
2 tsps baking powder
55g cocoa powder
85g dark chocolate, broken into small pieces (dont start eating whilst breaking up)
225g caster sugar
1 tsp vanilla extract
4 free range eggs (how very moral of them)
225g jelly belly jelly beans

*preheat oven to 180 (ive just realised i dont know where the degrees celsius circle thing is on the keyboard) c. line a 30x20x3.5cm (failed on tin size) cake tin & butter a piece of parchment or greaseproof paper.

*sift together flour, baking powder & cocoa & set aside. melt the butter with the sugar & chocolate in a heavy saucepan over a moderate heat, stirring continuously. Remove from heat & stir in the vanilla & eggs (one at a time). Add the flour mixture & jelly beans.

*spread the mixture in the tin. Bake for 20-25 minutes til a knife comes out clean (they say skewer but my paltry utensils fail to extend to a skewer). Cool for 15 mins then turn on to a wire rack (again i lacked their culinary arsenal.)

my efforts did turn out edible, especially hot & with spray cream.

There isn't one as such on the keyboard, you'd have to go into character map (start>accessories>system tools>character map) or use some other method to do with the number pad and alt keys.

edit: or just write the word degrees. whatever. :p

simple one.

all you need is watercress, orange or pink grapefruit (or a half of each), feta cheese, pitted black olives, and a raspberry vinaigrette.

line a plate with the watercress; peel the fruit and open into wedges, line these in any pleasant looking manner on top of the watercress; add black olives; crumble a bit of feta cheese over top. vary the amounts of each as you see fit.

now make a bit, not a lot, of the vinaigrette and drizzle it over the salad.

voila.

to make a raspberry vinagrette there are a lot of different methods, some of which are listed here: http://www.cooks.com/rec/search/0,1-0,raspberry_vinaigrette_dressing,FF.html.

Note the key ingredient is just raspberry vinegar. You can actually kind of cop out and just use that -- plus a bit of olive oil (or vegetable oil) and a tiny bit of pepper if needed.

red onions cut really fine and soaked in rasberry vinegar taste really nice in a green salad or on cheese sandwiches. it tastes almost like sweet pickled onions but with a sharp rasberry taste as well.

Any food can be made better by adding jalapenos. Fact.
