The whole object oriented nature of C++ is useful, though somewhat odd to get used to once you've been used to the procedural nature of BASIC as basstard pointed out. I give up with anything C now; simply because I picked up C quite easily, though C++ is every so slightly different and it confuses the hell out of me. Still, it's a powerful language, and is still pretty nifty :)

this statement makes me brain want to cry. It wants to cry tears of explosion. And yes, ask timmeh, he knows everything. Also, google is your friend:

Programming is awesome. You fail.
I don't know much about C++ though. I spent a year using BASIC, and the easy help file allowed me to learn the advanced stuff on my own and spend a lot of time creating my own neat programs. I've spent the last year learning Java on a college level, but C++ was just one semester and never got past the basics. I don't know its capabilities.

Funnily enough I've heard Java described as a cut down C++ :)
Anyhow, not being much of a programmer myself (I've dabbled in basic, Visual basic (Blech!) and assembler) I can't give you much advice other than ask google. C/C++ really is the 'one to learn' as they say, it really is used almost everywhere.
