To be honest i dont see what the problem with cloning is! if you can clone the inteligence of the worlds great people then mankind will progress far quicker and more discovery's will be made. Although i do respect the fact that cloning someone can cause problems!
Cloning is a joke in my opinion. We weren't meant to choose how the baby's gonna turn out. The world might be smarter or whatever, but I have a feeling there wouldn't be much creativity and life would be boring.

there is something very creepy about cloning. the 'designer babies' should grow up to be a 'better' race of people. years from now this new breed of designed humans will create unrest between natural humans and hatred may develop, which will lead to fighting and even War. i think we should stop messing with nature before we screw up and do something we regret.

Ok, I'm assuming this has been spurred on due to this guy (according to him) cloning a human baby. Every other cloning attempt in mammels has NOT been 100% successfull, and ALL of the clones had some genetic defects. Cloning is CLEARLY not a well understood science, and so to clone a human baby when there is a very high chance of genetic/faetal abnormalities isn't only unethical - it's cruel. Humans are not guinepigs for poorly understood branches of science. Perhaps one day the technology might be sensible, but at the moment its irresponsible.

most things start off to benefit mankind but only end up trying to destroy our lives
like how the space race lead to the personal computer
so i dunno their could be benefits to being able to grow new body parts etc but cloning humans really isnt necessary, and specifically selecting genes is a bit dodgey too imo cos youll always get charlatans trying to abuse any system put in place

Why do we even need cloning? Is there some sort of shortage of people? Is 7 billion not enough?

well i think that was rather creepier than you intended :P
I think what poof meant was that cloning could be used in future to either clone individual organs, or perhaps even whole people except without a brain, say, so they would never be in any way aware and there wouldn't be an ethical issue with slicing em up for spare parts. It sounds a bit gross, but as they would have less mental capacity than an ant, it wouldnt be in any way cruel, and could massivly further medical treatments available to people.

though there'd be no guarantee the organs were safe...

We do not need to clone. Anyone involved in such research is simply doing it because it...they want to.
You need to remember that Doctors used to dig up bodies, or pay people to provide them with bodies to further their studies in the 18th and 19th century.
We may not agree with cloning, but it is going to happen no matter what laws are laid down.
