Recently a new vaccine has been developed that protects against a form of cervical cancer, you might think this is a great thing especially as the vaccine appears to 100% effective.
However some people (article here (http://www.sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?file=/c/a/2005/10/31/MNG2LFGJFT1.DTL)) are saying that this is a bad thing. Incase you don't know what a vaccine is, the cancer is caused by a virus which 'can be' transmitted sexually cue extremeist religous types to step in and say this is hold up, I'm not letting this happen, it encourages sex before marriage.
This disease is killing 3700 people a year whoose lives could be saved by this vaccine.
Should the vaccine be given to people or not?
Discuss.

i think that this vaccine should be used, definately.
the people saying it will condone underage sex/sex before marriage are just looking for a scapegoat.
what causes underage sex/sex before marriage is society. our society has changed and now having sex before (or completely without) marriage is perfectly acceptable, also there is pressure and such on young people to have sex.
the people that do have sex 'too young' arn't the type of people who will think carefully and decide not to do it incase they get cancer.
also, having sex when married isn't going to prevent you getting cancer anyway.
this is just crazy, really.

"Just because you wear a seat belt doesn't mean you're seeking out an accident,"
This goes back to the argument that Sex ed shouldn't be taught in schools because it might encourage kids to have sex.
Just because a virus is sexually transmitted doesn't mean that it can't be transmitted another way e.g you can get syphalis from your parents during birth. YOu can get thrush from certain steroids.
To say that this vaccine will encourage children to have sex is stupid. If they want to stop people having sex early the media should be purged, we should burn all the books and forbid people to even talk about it.
When sex was very taboo people were still having it and they always will, it's a natural thing. Teens are filled with hormones and don't think about the consequences - "if i have sex i will get cancer" does any smoker think when they light up "if i smoke i will die?"

QFT. technically the common cold is a sexually transmitted disease, because that is the most effective way of spreading it.
