View Full Version : Battery Acid: Can I get rid?
Yesterday morning the battery in my MP3 player exploded, leaking acid into it. Now it will not turn on and my computer does not recognise it (it begins to, but then it cannot load the drivers from the MP3's memory).
I have fairly important coursework on it and was wondering if there is any way I can reverse the damage the acid has done, or if I can get the data off.
Its one of those shitty MP3 players that I bought 3 years ago, so buying a new one won't be a problem - I just want the data.

Pay $500 to a data retrieval agency to get it off there.
Or send it to timmeh in the mail.

I think it is fairly safe to say "It's f**ked" and probs not worth the $500 to remove it!

Where as Mp3's are made from 1 chip, lcd screen and plastic. A cheap battery leaked in mine about a year ago but as the compartment was sealed off from the rest of the mp3 player, mine was ok.

Battery acid is not alllllllll that corrosive. By comparison with some, anyway. Contrary to what you see on films, it doesn't burn holes in things in seconds, if you got some on plastic, it'd probably start to erode in a few hours, not minutes. Check you've cleaned out the battery casing thoroughly, see if you can see what damage has been done, as sirch said, most of them have shut off containers. Unfortunatly, if it is bollocksed, there's very little you can do unless you fancy shelling out to get your data back. Hope you weren't silly enough to only have the one copy...
