Whenever I start up my computer, a beeping noise comes from it and I get this message.

WARNING: Dell's Disk Monitoring System has detected that Drive 0 in the primary EIDE controller is operating ourside of normal specifications. It is advisable to immediately back up your dat and replace your hard disk drive by calling your support desk or Dell Computer Corporation.

Strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run setup utility

Should I do what the message tells me and get a new hard drive (300 bucks lolwut), or just continue on and ignore the thing?

Everything runs fine, and I can go on the computer normally, but is it something that I should worry about, or Microsoft trying to get money again?

Hmm. I'm not really an expert, but something you could try is getting some SMART monitoring software - that will tell you some things about your hard disk, and tell you whether it really is faulty or not. I'll have a quick search on Google and see what I can find for you.

Once you run the software, run its checks, and it will come up with a list of statistics about the hard drive - it will tell you what the current values are, what the worst they have been is, and what the lowest acceptable values are. As I understand it, if any of the values go below the threshold value given for that statistic, you're in trouble.

I can't guarantee I'm right, of course :p

Enlighten me Grim Reaper, from what store did you buy this mystical machine , DSE or other wise.

Appart from my theiveing of attention, ehat all these other people have said is pretty much correct. And the Dell Disk monitor is most likely A SMART monitor any ways.
