In your recording volume control, select Stereo Out or something similar. Usually after the Line and Mic. Just select that for recording, adjust volumes accordingly and that'll record whatever's going through.

In your recording volume control, select Stereo Out or something similar. Usually after the Line and Mic. Just select that for recording, adjust volumes accordingly and that'll record whatever's going through. To be more indepth, double click on the speaker icon in the system tray, and then choose "tools > options" (or something along those lines). Then select "recording" in the window which appears and check the tick next to something along the lines of "stereo mix" or "output" or "wave device" or "What-U-Hear" then press okay. Then check "select" under the channel which matches to the ones I've described above, then go into your recording software and press record and all should be fine and dandy.

Then you can record whatever goes to the speakers, into Sound Recorder.
Just for fun, do that to the Hispanic Street Preachers and then reverse the clip.

Dammit, there's some sort of parental control filter that's appeared in the last three hours that blocks all imageshack content. I'll need to speak to Sysadmin Dad and get that fixed.
Help please...
1) Are you using Windows XP? If you are follow this list.
2) Find the volume control near the clock. Double-click on it.
3) On the volume control window, open the 'Options' menu and select 'Properties'.
4) Under 'Adjust volume for' select the 'Recording' option.
5) Enable all the check-boxes in 'Show the following volume controls' and press OK.
6) The volume control window should now be called 'Wave In', and it now controls the volume and source of Things That Are Recorded.
7) One of the channels will be called 'Stereo Mix' (or possibly "output" or "wave device" or "What-U-Hear"). Check the box marked 'Select' in that channel.
This means that when you press 'Record' in the Sound Recorder, it will record the stereo mix (which is what goes to the speakers for you to hear), instead of the microphone or whatever is normally recorded.
8) Open the Sound Recorder program (easiest way is to open the Start menu, press 'Run...' and enter 'Sndrec32').
9)Get the music you want to record ready to play.
10) Start the Sound Recorder recording, then start the music.
11) After one minute Sound Recorder will stop. Check the recording. If it is distorted, turn down the volume on the music-playing program.
12) Open the 'Edit' menu in Sound Recorder and press 'Copy' to copy the first 60 seconds of the music.
13) Paste the minute of music back to make the clip longer by pressing Ctrl-V or opening the Edit menu and pressing 'Paste Insert'. Every time you paste, the clip should get 60 seconds longer. Keep doing this until the clip is long enough to accommodate the music you want to record.
14) Press the 'Rewind' button in Sound Recorder, start it recording, and start the music from the beginning again.
15) When you get to the end of the music, stop Sound Recorder and, from the Edit menu, press 'Delete after current position' to trim the sound file to the right length.
16) Save it somewhere, convert it to MP3 or whatever using any method that can be found.

Wave Out Mix is the one you want.
Sorry, I thought you already knew how to adjust volumes with Volume Control. :(

Thanks Dr Death for the helpful guide and thanks to MONKEY050 for making it possible :D
EDIT: Poo! Must spread some reputation around before giving it to MONKEY050 again

Hmm. Now I can see imageshack files again. I think i know how to stop that problem happening again now.
I couldn't see the picture that Jazz_Donkey posted yesterday when I wrote the previous post!

If you want a better piece of software than Windows Recorder, then use Audacity..
http://audacity.sourceforge.net
When you hit the record button, it'll automatically record the Stereo Mix (what you hear from your speakers). You can then save it in a variety of formats (mp3, aac, wma etc) and do editing akin to some of the features that professionals use.

Yes, Audacity is quite the 1337 package.
