Timmeh

OK, you wanted this back so here it is. There have been some changes to the rules, please take a few minutes to re-read them. Most importantly, you will now sign up by saying you with to participate with a reply to this thread, not PMing me (my poor inbox from last time, it took a bit of a slapping).
Rules
First a disclaimer
-- Debating a point does NOT mean that you believe whole-heartedly in what you are discussing. This is designed to allow people to have fun and maybe learn some stuff. This is a no hate zone. --
1. Topics for debate will be posted in this thread. Applications for a debate will be made by replying to this thread. It will be on a first come first served basis.
2. Two teams of three will be given the subject and a new thread will be made for each debate, which will last five days. The debate thread will be made by one of the adjudicators (Timmeh, Bigmother or Discodoris) and the first post will contain details of which team you have been assigned to and which side of the debate you will be asked to represent. You must argue the case you have been given.
3. If you apply and fail to make either team, you are guaranteed to be first in line for the next debate to happen, if you wish to take part
4. Every participant will receive a single credit for a debate, although you MUST participate reasonably. The adjudicators reserve the right to not award this credit if we feel that you have not offered enough support to your team.
5. Within the debate there shall be no personal attacks and no outside intervention will be tolerated. Such posts will be deleted, personal attacks will result in the loss of participation credit for a team member. If you are not a team member and wish to discuss the debate in question or how the teams are doing, you may create a thread to do so.
6. Research and evidence is ENCOURAGED. Please feel free to quote to back up your point, but please, please, please don't just steal someone elses argument. I will more than likely find out.
7. At the end of the debate period, we will put up a voting thread, so that the spectators and participants can determine the winning team. Obviously we would prefer that the voting was given for people actually doing a good job debating, rather than which side of the debate you actually feel to be the correct moral outcome, but we can't dictate voting, so we are aware that there may be some voting based purely on personality too. Another credit will be given to each member of the winning team
8. The adjudicants (Timmeh, Bigmother and Discodoris) will also have the discretion to award a single individual credit to anyone they consider to have put in particularly persuasive/well-researched/well thought out answers
9. Credits will enable us to establish a league table, with a trophy of "Master Debator" :D to be awarded to the first forumite to get 25 credits. We will also be giving yellow, blue and red rosettes for signatures, on attaining 5, 10 or 20 credits.
Get signing up and we'll announce more as we go!
