Hi all,

I have been having problems with Sky for the past few months now. the picture has these horrible lines going up the screen (vertical lines). the cables are all connected properly and its only the one TV being used (at the moment to get the best picture)

Can anyone give some advice on what the fault may be ? and how to correct it?

thank you :)

Is there a way of resetting the box at all? You could try turning the digibox off, taking the dish cable out, turning it back on again, then turn it off, plug the cable back in again, and then restart the box.

I don't have a digibox, but a friend does, and I installed that for her.

Sounds like a vertical banding problem to me. Have you checked that your LNB is ok? Do you happen to have an amstrad box? They were a bit infamous for giving banding if I recall correctly. Might be worth carting your box off to a mates to see if it works ok there. If it does, I'd be putting my money on it being your LNB.

Hi thanks for your help, I am taking the box to someones house tomorrow to check but I think I could be a fault with the LNB because I know 3 other people in my area that had to have the same model I have replaced within 2 years (mine is currently just over 4 years old) So either way hopefully this is all the problem is.

thanks :)

We have been having horrible problems with our Sky box recently, lines would appear across the screen, the picture would go green and then it would switch itself off. It gradually got worse and worse (its my Dads box, he wouldnt do anything about it unless it actually caught fire) until it started to make this evil grinding sound.

Turns out, Sky boxes are supposed to have a specific amount of room around them to let air flow through the box and stop it from overheating. It varies from maker to maker and between regular Sky and Sky+. My normal Sky needs only a little bit of space, whereas our Sky+ boxs needs 5cm above and either side.

Although I think Timmeh is right, it doesnt sound like its overheating.

If it was overheating, it'd probably start off fine and get gradually worse the longer it was on. All such devices of course need a bit of space - computers need about 6 inches from PSU fan to wall if possible, consoles need an amazing amount of room, a friend had his PS2 die because he jammed it on a shelf and actually had the fan flush to the back, genius that he was.
