I would like to know if any of you forumites have a favourite artist, (or a favourite picture, sculpture etc) of any kind that you would like to share.

I'm gunna get the ball rolling...

Junko Mizuno

The things I love about Junko Mizuno's work is the surreal quality her work has, the unusual mixture of the cute & the grotesque & the kaleidoscopic mix of vivid colours, which I feel ad to the whole dream (or erotic nightmare) like feel.

If you like what you see, why not visit Junko Mizuno's Homepage (http://www.pulp-mag.com/junko/index.html) Warning This isn't work safe & it is not suitable for minors! :isay:

Another artist I love is Stencil Graffiti artist Banksy (http://www.banksy.co.uk).

You might of seen some of his work already (he did the art work on the new blur album), or you might of even seen some while you where walking down the street, especially if you live in London, Bristol or Brighton.

His site is definitely worth checking out!

chet zar - www.chetzar.com

cam de leon - www.happypencil.com

jennadelle - http://jennadelle.deviantart.com (skim through her gallery it is amazing)

I am a big tool fan though i listen to very little metal / rock and roll music. listening to them is my 'release' without sounding to cliche (failed? oh well) when i saw them live i was blown away by the visual spectacle aided greatly by the works of cam de leon and chet zar. there were two giant screens with looping images tied into the song (most of which you can see on their website) and complimented the music astoundingly. they may be playing at brixton academy again next year for enthuasits in the london area and i strongly urge not just fans to attend but also open minded apreciators. as for jennadelle looking at her sketches and progression 'inspired' me (another bastard cliche!) to carry on with my sketches and hopefully i will be doing more sketch work through photoshop later this year with my wacom tablet hopefully be coming next month. as for banksy his work amuses me and he has done one or two in my town and nearby. my friend is a big fan and did alot of similar stuff for his gcse's (his final paintings were amazing) and he is now doing art a level which i cant wait to see.

Don't worry about sounding cliché (I didn't think you did btw). It doesn’t matter as long as you're sincere.

The Chet Zar stuff is quite morbid, maybe even a little disturbing, but once I got over the initial shock of that, I think it's quite interesting. :)

You might like some of Mark Ryden's stuff. (http://www.markryden.com/paintings/index.html)

I can't pass a butchers shop now without thinking about his stuff! (That will make sense if you look at his work. heh).

I think of everything I've seen, Salvador Dali and Antoni Gaudi are my most favorite artists. Dali's surreal style is just puzzling, and Gaudi's architecture is original and just plain captivating to look at.

Gaudi - link 1 (http://kubos.org/AN/en/villes/barcelone/gaudi.htm) (not such great quality images, but you get the idea)

Salvador Dali is very nice. Went to see his stuff up in the museum about a month back.

At the same time I went to the Saatchi gallery where I saw a load of stuff by Damien Hirst. I have to say that it is amazing and inspirational once you are up close. Just the Tiger Shark suspended in formaldehyde is totally breathtaking.

Mark Quinn's "Self" was also on display there. For those who don't know, Quinn took a cast of his head and then over several weeks drained off 9 pints of his own blood. He filled the cast with his blood and froze it and the result is a perfect image of the artist's head made up of his own frozen blood. This has to be one of my favourite pieces of art in the whole museum.

As far as comic artists are concerned Alvin Lee illustrates the current issues of Marvel's Agent X and it is beautiful stuff. Also, when colonel was in London, we did the very geeky thing of going to a comic book signing by a guy called Jim Lee. I have to admit, the guy does amazing work. He signed a Batman book he'd been working on and drew a sketch of Catwoman for me on the inside front cover. Don't let anyone ever say that cartoon art is not arty.

Right well I'm going to plump for a famous one here.

M. C. Escher (http://www.mcescher.com/)

For now I'll leave it at that but I'll continue this at a time when it is not 2:30am.

Escher is always fun to look at.
And my condolences on (your?) uncle, Garg. (The one listed in your sig.)

H.R. Giger \m/ - My friend did a piece of art in the style of Giger, and it was quite impressive to say the least... well, he got the Art Award in the school for it :D haha

But I'm doing Photography, so I'm looking more at Photographers rather than artists.

Because i can't draw.

Nothing wrong with challenges! :P

*grumbles*

And I love Salvador Dali. He rocks.

I especially love his 'Egg on a plate without the plate' and 'A dream caused by the flight of a bee around a pomegranate 1 second before awakening'...

Not sure if I got that last title quite right :P

Ken Anderson - lead prof. at the uni i went to... shame he has nothing online atm... He taught me to do art because it is fun... and to never care what others think... well others that wasn't him... as he would say, 'I'm only the guy with the grade book.' He is also a wealth of bad puns and jokes...

Randy Waln - new prof. hired to bring our school to the digital age... Much quieter and much more demanding... Here are some of his latest digital works...
http://homepage.mac.com/waln/PhotoAlbum3.html

Doc Sherwood - retired prof. who still teaches a watercolor course... when he thinks about it... even after all these years he still experiments with new ideas and techniques... Here are some form his last art show...
http://homepage.mac.com/waln/secondsite/sherwood38.html

Mary Beth Fogarty - Ah yes... Mary Beth... the crazy old woman... She got her masters along with Ken Anderson and when we needed a temp prof. she came to help... She is the only person I know who has been rather successful in the international art scene... not only has she had work shown in NYC, but also in Germany... well... that is what i was told... when i google searched her quite alot came up... she has helped me with my drawing... or atleast helped me accept it... heh... She is also quite dead...
http://chem-mgriep2.unl.edu/nwca/ladiesrm.html

Paul Fell - cartoonist and also a former prof. at the uni... just like Doc he came back to teach a class... oddly enuff in cartooning... atm he is doing work as a political cartoonist for the local paper... his website is www.paulfellcartoons.com

Bill Coulter - custodian of the art dept. just so happens to be a great painter... master at rendering still lifes... just like Ken, he has nothing online... He was always around to comment about my paintings and also handed me some recommended books...

That is all of my academic influences.... here are a few others...

Douglas Shuler - Fantasy artist... Made his debut as a Magic: The Gathering illustrator... Known for the original art for the Serra Angel card... last time i checked he is busy doing concept art for game developers... I have met him a couple of times (and got a couple of sketches as well...) I've always just like his style... he can draw some of the best dragons... his website is www.douglasshuler.com

Ron Spencer - this is the guy... who if i could take anyone's style and use it... i would take his... he is another fantasy artist... and has done art for magic :tg and deadlands... plus others... not only is his images unique but its what he uses to make his images that is cool... if you would list his type of media of one painting it would look like this... watercolor, pastels, color pencil, ball point pen... etc... anything he could get his hands on... here is a card i found... (odd he has no website)
http://sales.starcitygames.com/cardscans/MAGSTR/MAGSTR113.jpg

one more magic: tg artist...

Drew Tucker - watercolor artists who took his talents to the illustration market... i have done a few of my paintings base off of his art... i feel odd i don't have much to say... i think i might be getting tired of writing this repie... here is a website...
http://www.daydream-graphics.com/artists/tucker/dt_catalog.htm

here are a few art student type names... you know the kind of names i should be listing since i owe so much in student loans so i would know these names..

Bacon - people find his works to be "grotesque", but he disagrees and finds he work of be "beautiful"... another interesting fact.. when he is not getting drunk at his favorite pub... he paints on the ruff back side of masonite... with no primer... but i can't say anything... i use oil paint straight on printing paper... http://www.francis-bacon.cx/

..~.....~~~....~~~~

-_-

ok i'm tired now... i'll just hit submit...
