Roll up ladies and gents, for the magnificent splendour that is IRC Countdown!

the_basstard and myself have set up a rather magnificent (well, we're proud of it :p) channel, in which you can play the classic TV game Countdown.

The main premise of the IRC version is that you trigger scripts by asking for vowels and consonants, and then forming the longest word you can out of the letters you have been given!

The rules of the game are simple. You are allowed to choose 9 letters in total. In this version, you are allowed the following:

Vowels:

Minimum of 2, maximum of 4.

Consonants

Minimum of 5, maximum of 7.

Now the script-triggering part! To do this, you will need to say the following:

X vowels please
Y consonants please

Where X and Y are the number you want. Also, saying "please" is important to the execution of this script. Your mum always told you to be polite! :p

There is also a system to the way we are going to be operating this. The games will take place at 19:00 every Tuesday and Thursday.

When the games start, two people will be chosen at random to play. Those two people will be voiced and mode +m will be set. This way the game is kept relatively simple, and as little confusion as possible is experienced.

Last but certainly not least, the channel is #wabcountdown!

The first game will be held tomorrow night.

EDIT: Kindly post if you're interested, so we can gauge numbers. Thanks.

We're working on the script now.

Hold tight.

EDIT: Really tight. We'll be hard pushed to get this done by tomorrow night. :p

Oh, I almost forgot.

At the end of the game, there will be a conundrum worth 10 points!

More will be revealed as we get it working.

EDIT: Most of the scripts work now.

can't you just make a tim0r that says 30 seconds, 20 seconds, then count 10 to 1 then STOP?

If you give me that code I will gladly implement it.

As of now we have found no way of doing such a thing.

EDIT: Gary (aladdin_sane) got it. Thanks, Gary!

Wow, quite a lot of interest.

The game will have to go on quite long then, to give all you guys a chance to play! :p

Because this is IRC, and things can be a bit frantic, it might be an idea to do a timetable-y type thing, say 5/10 minutes per game. Going on this, we'll have:

19:00 - Youlikeyams? vs piemastermike
19:15 - terrorbite vs Paul12345
19:30 - the_basstard vs ???

the_basstard knows all the answers, so I may have to develop a few more conundrums before then. Also, if we could get one more player for tonight's game, that would be smashing. Thanks.

I normally have dinner around that time but I'll do my best to make it. I apologise a LOT in advance if I can't make it though :(

Well if you can't make it, then I'll get someone else Smartie. :p

19:00 - Youlikeyams? vs piemastermike
19:15 - terrorbite vs Paul12345
19:30 - the_basstard vs taysmith/Smartie

There.

EDIT: Smartie, it still works. Just don't click register, it should still work fine.

IMPORTANT

Moved forward to 20:00 for more convenience.

So, the games are now:

20:00 - Youlikeyams? vs Smartie
20:15 - Erasmus vs taysmith
20:30 - the_basstard vs Paul12345

Smartie 10 - 1 Youlikeyams?

Very amusing game, spawned some good 3 letter words! :p

Erasmus 8 - 5 Taysmith

Pretty close, it was a draw until the close conundrum!

Paul12345 5 - 6 the_basstard

Very close, beaten by one letter!

Maybe numbers next Tuesday!

Sorry about that. I remembered about half an hour before I was meant to play, then got caught up doing something and only remembered again an hour too late :)

I had great fun! :)

I can only play it when I'm at my house though, as the missus only has a works laptop and can't download IRC onto it.

Bump!

Tomorrow I shall have to work hard getting the numbers working, as I am going out for a rather swanky meal (albeit by myself, but you know) tonight.

People who want to play post, please thank you your welcome.

Depends on the time as pub quiz demands me to leave the house at just after 8pm.
