So does anyone remember this game (http://forums.weebls-stuff.com/showthread.php?t=3747)?

It was made by magic_pea aaagggeesss ago and was put into besterest, but eventually the story died and the thread was locked. :(

BUT it is now back in action!

All you have to do is continue the comic from where it left off.

Here are his old rules, but slightly revamped by me...

RULES

1. you can use paint, paint, and ONLY paint. Unless you have a program very similar to paint, and you can use that if you want.

2. Keep source images (anything YOU didn't draw) to an absolute minimum, you may include one or two SMALL sources if you absolutely must

3. One frame minimum on each comic strip (no, really?) and maximum 5 frames per comic strip.

4. I guess it's not a rule, but lets see lots of VARIETY! it doesn't matter if you paint skills are NILL, if you do a good story, and it makes everybody wet themselves with glee, its sure to get votes! So in summary, make it FUNNY, RELEVENT and it has to MAKE SENSE.

5. Please please PLEASE put some effort into your entry, don't just doodle a stickman and post it. If you are really terrible at drawing, atleast add something funny and valuable to the storyline instead. If you can't provide a good story nor decent drawing, it'd be better if you didn't enter at all

6. You don't have to use the exact style of the person before you, infact, if you continue from where the last person stopped and continue with a totally new style, it'll look great!

7. You have to finish your strip on a cliff hanger, or, at least at a place where the next person can continue from.

8. PNGs ONLY! No JPGs, no BMPs and No GIFs

9. Try to keep your images below 100kb for the users with slower connections

10. Don't reply to your own entry! It's stupid!

11. Check if anyone else has entered before posting your entry as you may mess up the story, in the event that this does happen, the first one to post overules, unless it's really shit

Now we've got that clear, here is the first strip, so go go go!

I will wait until there are less people online, so that I have a chance of contributing to the story even with my slow paint skills. :D

rule three confuses me.

In other words, you have to have at least one box containing text and a picture, and up to five :)

The whole point of this is to create a story, so how in hell did that contribute to the story at all? Weebl gives him a key to a box that contains weebl?

Whoever draws the next frame, continue it from Lippy's section please.

Argh... why do people keep spinning the story round in circles?!?!

First it gets brought back to weebl now back to the turd, can we please move the story forward, this is what stories usually do.

So Lippy, next time you contribute, make sure it's actually taking the story somewhere, also please don't edit your strips after they've been posted, as it messes up other people's.

kikumbob
06-09-2006, 12:54 PM
Its very easy to make a contribution and take the story nowhere when you only use one frame. I think it would be a good idea if we made the minimum number of frames 2.

So I'd continue the original story were I you, Zhyl.

This thing is always going to go one of two ways:

1) Forumites take the story into their own hands, often making predictable and repetitive storylines but they have the freedom to pretty much do what they like. Anyone who is new to the thread will be shunned in an almost elitist way and their contributions ignored.

2) A vague plan is drawn up so that people know what they are doing or in what general direction the story is heading. This will mean more varying in action and storyline but less freedom in the part of randomness and plot twists.

Midget
09-09-2006, 08:50 AM
Ok that really pissed me off.

often making predictable and repetitive storylines but they have the freedom to pretty much do what they like.
This is not entirey true. Yes some people will make predictable and repetative storylines, but this is because they are too lazy to use their brain and think of something worthwhile. In the old thread there were loads of crappy entries that were predictable and boring, but then there were plenty where people actually put effort into their entry and added something of value. Maybe instead of bitching about it, you could show us all how it's done and add something good?

Anyone who is new to the thread will be shunned in an almost elitist way and their contributions ignored.
Not true in the slightest. New members will NOT be ignored, the only entries shunned will be those that add absolutely nothing to the story of value (omg a giant shit kills batman!1!) entries that ruin the story for someone else or entries that bring us round in circles (omg the giant shit comes back again but like more metal lol!1!).

A vague plan is drawn up so that people know what they are doing or in what general direction the story is heading. This will mean more varying in action and storyline but less freedom in the part of randomness and plot twists.
This is not the point of this thread, there isn't supposed to be a pre-set story. The whole point of the thread is for everyone to contribute and eventually make a good story that makes sense and has some actual humour in it.

So I'm sorry if the story is a bit crappy atm, but I can't do much about that. If people want to make shoddily drawn entries with boring and ridiculous storylines, they will do. Hopefully though, the people who are willing to make en effort will drown out those entries.

magic_pea

People! People! (Zhyl)

There is no "plan"! The way it works, as you suggested, is that everyone does what they like and takes the story where they want to.

Don't try and insert some sort of regime! It's an easy anyone-can-join-in fun game and was never intended to have some sort of plan behind it.

It always worked well without a plan, and I think it's coming along fine now! So quite complaining!

If you want to moan about lack of story or plot holes, become a movie critic.

Thankyou for pointing out what I said in a better formed reply, Midget :ninja:

There's more than enough to continue the story with - no need to bring in extra characters elsewhere in the storyline to be honest. As in, Tom Cruise suddenly appearing with no apparent motive to kill Batman...

Heh, you think I'm being serious - see Zhyl's last post.

I'm not trying to be too serious, I'm just saying, from experience (I was the originator of this thread a long time ago, see the first post) I know what confuses other participants and tends to disrupt the story/game for others.

Just trying to cease such an event recurring :)

And I'm not the only one who thinks that random events are a bit lame.
eg. Giant turds, being eaten by a Grue, and Tom Cruise being told to get Batman.

We just like some relevancy :) (See the rules should you think otherwise)

Zhyl
12-09-2006, 06:21 PM
I didn't mean to sound so miserable. You know what makes a good comic but I know what people are like and I will personally* give you £10 if you can get a decent story going**

* In the post or in a dark ally somewhere, used notes and no questions asked.
**By this I mean if you can get a story with decent characters, a plot etc. If someone fucks it up, no deal.

Roxit
12-09-2006, 06:29 PM
ummmm I don't think my post breaks the rules, so therfore I think it stands. If you have ever read a book or comic, watched a TV programme or a film, or even played a game, you don't always understand everybodies motives as soon as you meet the character, thats the sort of thing which puts mystery into a plot. I only introduced Tom Cruise to the story, I can't help it if somebody else makes him appear in the next cell under bizarre circumstances.

magic_pea
12-09-2006, 07:29 PM
Guys! I'm not attempting to dissect the science of the plot! I'm just saying that there were a couple of lame ideas!

And I don't recall at any point saying "Take that post down it doesn't count" and I doubt I ever will. As I said before, you can post WHAT YOU LIKE. I'm just suggesting, ignore me if you don't agree.

Your posts are all valid and anyone can continue in whatever manner they like, as it always was.
So long as it follows the rules (ie. Relevancy)

You know what makes a good comic but I know what people are like
