From Gene Poynter:

Would you be interested in selling your forum? If so get back to me with the price you'd be willing to sell your forums for.

i have replied that we will sell for £500, but that we CAN negotiate if that's too high.

Jimmy

Only 500?

I thought we were worth more than that... although the cheesebin would bring it down a fair bit! :D

That's hilarious. Try to string it along as far as you can!

Also, this is the first instance I've ever heard of where someone wants to buy a forum. Must be too lazy to build their own.

a reply!

From the lovely Gene:

I believe I can afford 500 Pounds.
followed swiftly by:

Will you sell your forums for £500?
I like Gene, he is a direct businessman with an eye for closing a deal. No dilly dallying for him!

Well, I shall reply.

Hi Gene

upon further consideration, and due to your hard-nosed nogotiation skills, we have decided to sell our forums based on the number of members.

We have 18746 members and consider them to be worth no more than six pence each.

18746 x 0.06 = £1124.76

I hope this slight increase has not affected matters too much - should be no problem for a multinational conglomerate such as yourself!

regards

From what I've read on the internets, people seem to value their opinions at 2 cents apiece. Assuming a post:opinion ratio of 1:1, the forums are worth 19,753.72 Yankee dollars.

That would be 2,334,889.7 yen. Which is a bigger number, so that means a bigger KER-CHING.

NOW WHAT???

[edit] This now!

I was referred to you from a friend who said you were intrested in selling. I am very intrested in your site, and was wondering if you could msg me back any details.
The price I was quoted is 2100 USD.
( 18746 (users) x 0.06 = £1124.76 = 2,104.65 USD )

If you are ready to move forward, Let me know if you have a AIM or MSN account, and we can discuss more.
saints preserve us!

I have replied:

Hi Daniel

unfortunately we have reconsidered as we are unsure of your intentions towards our loyal fanbase - for all we know you could have them trussed up like Christmas turkeys before we know it, and then where will we be?

also we neglected to included charges for the use of our moderating team, who are as close to priceless as is possible in today's competitive market.

we wish you and Gene all the best in your plans to take over the internet by acquiring other people's fan bases (a bizarre plan if you ask me! - blackmailing works much better)

This made me lol. Why would anyone want to buy a forum? What might their great plan be? Charge us 5 £ to be able to stay and 20 more to become a priat member(yes they willl change it from ninja to pirat).

Why not sell the cheesebin? Charge them 5 pence for every post ever made in the bin. I think that would turn out to be millions if you sum up all posts ever made there.

Im glad im worth 17 cents, thats up 7 cents from last i heard, i wonder how many people will invest in me now?

@Mr Fest: Randomly attacking a newbie doesn't really do anything, post count doesn't matter or join date. Its quality of posts that does. (even if that one wasnt the best anyone has seen.

Because I was going to write dollars, then realised i'd said pence (not pounds), so kept the NZ currency in the same way (ie cents) but forgot to remove the 0.

However, 'pence' is not a currency so technically I ought to have written
0.06 GBP = 0.15 NZD
