Google has bought YouTube for £1.65bn (£883m) after a weekend of specualtion that an offer was coming.
Full story here (http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/business/6034577.stm).
It has been stressed that its not really a takeover, but more of a the start of a partnership.
YouTube makes no profits and is thereby being bought for its advertising potential.
Thoughts?

I hope they don't change much. I much prefer Youtube to Google Video.

Interesting.
I always found the quality of Google Vid to be higher than Youtube.
I hope they start using the GVid format but keep the Youtube UI :)

From what I understand, they are changing very little. YouTube will be operating the same as it usually does.

Good on YouTube :) Setting up a website for home videos only a year ago, and now the inventors are millionaires :p
It doesn't seem as though Google will change much, but if it does become too commercialised then people may start to stop using YouTube, which would be a shame

They'll probably just set up google video to index youtube properly.

I'm afraid of Google now, they're turning into the likes of Oprah, Tesco and Coca Cola. These four companies are gonna battle to take over the world. My money is on Oprah. PRAISE OPRAH.
Hopefully all the adverts on YouTube will be uninstrusive like that on the search engine and gmail. I hope there isn't gonna be a problem with censorship and the like. Google is a business and Youtube isn't really.

This doesn't really bother me, i doubt people will stop using Youtube.
I just hope the adverts aren't like that annoying mosquito buzzing one.
Well, google video and youtube will remain seperate. Ads would dilute content considerably.

This article is pretty damning of the business strategy involved...

It's worth I read (well, I don't regret having read it, and I think I learned quite a bit).

It would be madness to change it to a google video site. The whole point of buying YouTube, is that they want to buy a website that works. Why change a winning formula?

I doubt we're going to notice much of a change :\

Google aren't idiots, they won't mess with a winning brand. I doubt much will change, people are happy with YouTube as it is, so google won't change it.

Oprah who make the dodgy web browser? Or Oprah Winfrey? Either way, I had no idea that either of them had a future  Also I think Virgin needs noteable mention on that list
