We already have all the christmas stock in my place of business. I keep getting complaints from customers that it's too early.

It IS too early. I buy my presents on Christmas eve and I don't want to hear about it until then.

:( You guys!!! I've already bought some Christmas presents!

But then again, I get 3 weeks off at Christmas, so that makes me extra happy and look extra forward till Christmas.

Yea Antlers *high five*

It's already practically winter here, so I keep dreaming it's Christmas and waking up disappointed. I love christmas more than anything, and will now commence the counting of the days along with Antlers way up there at the top of the page.

did halloween happen yet or did i miss it?

El Kabong
19-10-2006, 01:52 AM
Didn't miss it, but it's getting ridiculous how scared people are at halloween. Takes all the fun out of it when kids aren't allowed to trick-or-treat, they have to go to the mall and walk store to store or some crap like that.

You know what Tescos have now? Ramadan Advent Calendars for 99p. I bought one. not for me.

my mate is dating a turkish girl whose whole family is REALLY into the whole islamic thing. So shes pretty much not allowed to leave the house except for work for a month. so basically the day before ramadan began she wanted to have sex for the first time with him, and he was too busy. the idiot. now all i hear is him moaning about how he has to wait a month for it now. so i bought him the calendar and mailed it to him to shut him up.

he gets a chocolatey surprise and a quiz on ramadan each day. the only thing i dont get - ramadan is supposed to be about fasting. surely chocolates a big no-no then?

They've had advent calenders in Woolworths in Brum since August  it's just ridiculous. I have nothing against Christmas but Jesus, while the kids are still celebrating summer holidays: why does the commercial industry feel this inane need to wish our lives away?

I don't need to start feeling guilty about not having brought my presents before I've even started my course

There needs to be a rule about putting up christmas stock before halloween, it pisses me off when I see that there's a larger section dedicated to crimbo than scary masks and the like.

angrehfaec.

Or maybe I've got it wrong, maybe they want people to dress up as santa for trick or treating :S.

tx maxx is the only place ive been in that has decent halloween stuff. i got some nice spooky mugs for hot chocolate the other day.

i had thought we were becoming more american & halloween was getting bigger but it doesnt seem so this year. although i applaud greggs for having had their pumpkin cupcakes for the last month or so.

i bought the martha stewart magazine this month & its full of all sorts of wonderful pumpkinnery ideas. you dont get that sort of thing in england. shame. although i am going to make hugh fearnley-wittingstall's pumpkins & cream this afternoon.

There's one Christmas light up on the main road in Northfield... just one, hanging alone from a street light, blinking on and off every few seconds.

It's possibly the saddest and most random thing I've ever seen in my life.

I can understand sweets and chocolates for Eid ul-Fitr after Ramadan, but during? That can't be right. Surely you break your fast with simple food and you look forward to feasting at Eid. That's like eating chocolate every day through Lent.

That's like eating chocolate every day through Lent.Ramadan isn't just about the fast. And in any case, the fast is broken every day. Also, lots of people don't have to fast - kids for example, who this is probably marketed at.

However, it would make more sense for the calender to contain dates surely.

CheHamstera
19-10-2006, 12:04 PM
Yes, I do understand that people don't give up eating for a month  but what I'm saying is they would probably be encouraged to eat simply during the fasting period and then go all-out for Eid. And folks who don't fast - those who are too ill/ old/ young - are still encouraged to give things up for the month, not to have treats.

In conclusion, Tesco spoil eveything. I want mince pies already.

that sounds typical of northfield. it's probably because all of the others have been nicked. i'm always pretty suspicious in an area when going out to collect your giro is a day out for the whole family.

Argh, Christmas. The worst day of the year.

Though, I do have to admit to having started making Christmas presents, but that's because they take so damn long that the only time I can do it is the summer vacation. But then they decently get packed away never to resurface until about December 20th.

If you had to sew someone a kimono, you'd start in August too.

What about the fact that Advent is a Christian tradition so having a Ramadan Advent calendar is just a bit weird?

I wholeheartedly second this. If a political party want to gain voters, they should propose a ban on crimbo based sales etc. until at least after Haloween

I blame america. They seem to get more and more worked up about "Holidays" (ie haloween, christmas, easter etc) and put stuff out earlier and earlier so people over here adopt these americanisms and jump on the bandwagon. HENCE we have early christmas stuff.

Are you saying we have small pumpkins? I take offense to that good lady!

But seriously, need a bigger variety of pumpkins do you? Pumpkin patches are great for that. 'Course I haven't gone pumpkin picking in maybe 6 years...haunted hayrides and corn mazes are fun though ^_^

I was sort of generalising the culture as it is percieved from the outside and also from an outsider on the inside looking around (as I was!)

if that makes sense...

when i was in santa cruz the pumpkin patch was amazing. i wish we had them here.

my martha stewart magazine makes me so jealous of your american halloween. i really want one of these white 'lumina' pumpkins, theyre nifty. in my magazine is also the idea of carrot noses (see my crap webcam picture of magazine) i am in awe of these & making one sharpish. the far right is a lumina.

there is a large number of historians who believe that christ was actually born some time during the summer months rather than in december. the only reason that christmas is celebrated in the winter was so that it coincided with the pagan festival of yule in order for the church to win over some pagans and convince them to convert to christianity.:eng101:

Im going to come back from Rome on the day before Halloween, 24 hours to put up all the decorations, carve three pumpkins, possibly carve a turnip and get all the sweets, smoke bombs, sparklers and other works relating to fire.
