I've never done this before and know nothing about it, I'm so clueless to getting more RAM on my laptop that I have to post another thread about it.

My laptop is a hewlett packard compaq nx9005, and is currently running on something far too small for me like 128 or 256mb. I've been told, for me to be able to use all the recording programs I will be using, I'll need to upgrade this to "at least 1GB" or if it can't get that high, the highest possible.

EDIT: Apparently the biggest upgrade I can get is 512mb. Can you purchase two of these so it goes at 1024??

Also, if anyone can show me a good deal on an extra hard drive also (looking for 100gb but I can settle for others for now) so I can get my entire music collection on here, I'd be a happy chappy. Is this (http://www.amazon.co.uk/Western-Digital-250GB-Essential-External/dp/B000EXZAOY) compatible with my laptop?

Thanks in advance.

If the maximum you've been told is 512mb, then 512mb is the most the laptop can take. Unless its 512mb per slot, then you could get two 512mb sticks.
Ive sued one of the nx9xxx series, cant remember model, but its a bloody brick which sounds like a jet engine, and its terribly slow.

I've found it's 512 a slot, that's good going :)

Unless you know a shit ton about laptop upgrades, I'd really suggest taking it to a shop, it's very much not the same as upgrading a desktop's RAM... things are packed rather tightly into a laptop, you very much run the risk of breaking something important/things not fitting back in if you don't know exactly what you're doing. On the amount your laptop can take... find the motherboard's manual (or find the make and model of your motherboard and look it up on the internet. This'll also help when it comes to selecting specific RAM... DDR, DIM etc).
