So yesterday I went to a gig where alot of metal was played, and during the course of the night, me and my friends realied it was somewhat awesome.

Problem is, we dont know where to start downloading, cause none of the tracks covered were named and me and my friends were/are pretty emo/punk in our tastes.

So it would be vastly appreciated if you could recommend as many good metal bands, and more specifically songs as you can.

BTW-I am open to literally any form of metal at the moment, so dont think "ugh he might not like screaming-death-monkey metal" cause I just might find it good.

I'm not really into metal, but I love electric eel shock. Download Bastard!, Scream For Me, Beat Me, Killer Killer, Rock & Roll Can Rescue the World. You can find the videos for most of those Here (http://www.electriceelshock.com/DisplayPage.asp?pageid=32)

However, the Beat Me album is seriously worth considering, it's fantastic

Lamb of God are pretty standard awesome metal. I recommend Hourglass (album).

Then there's a bunch of others I like - SiKTh's first album (The Trees Are Dead and Dried Out....) is probably my favourite metal album ever, and Shaped By Fate are a similar but not quite as good band, if you can find anything by them.

Also, Slayer.

Any Metallica pre-ReLoad era. I reccomend the first 4 albums (Kill Em All, Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets and And Justice For All...) but the rest (Bar Reload and St. Anger) are okay.

For some Alternative Metal, you can't go wrong with System of a Down.

Also, as an alternative to Metallica, Megadeth are good.

Then, for British metal, Iron Maiden are okay as are Bullet For My Valentine (Metal with screamo elements).

For some good industrial death metal check out The Berzerker.

Hope that helps =)

All yesss. SiKth's latest album (Death of a dead day) is also fucking great.

Slayer, hell yes, Reign in Blood is one of my favourite albums out of any genre. The new album isn't too bad either.

Opeth. Prog metal with brilliant grunts, wonderful clean vocals, amazing acoustic parts, amazingly heavy riffs... It has pretty much everything.

Also, if you add me on MSN, I could send you sample songs of many a bandf, and you can decide whether you like it or not.

Same here tbh.

But really, if you want some more metal, you could try 36 crazyfists (slightly 'emo') or Alexisonfire (Not really metal, but metal-ish vocals)

So you mean something like Sonic death monkey by Gardenian?

Some other stuff actually worth listening to would be 20 20 150 by Stone Sour, Victim by Eighteen Visions and perhaps Avenged Sevenfold, Beast and the Harlot or Bad Country.

Some more stuff that isn't technically metal, but still worth listening to all the same would be Suicide Design by The Hope Conspiracy, Paper Triggers by Thrice and History's Stranglers by the Bronx.

Metal-wise, other than the bands already mentioned, you can't go wrong with Pantera. Since youre starting out with this metal shin-dig, go for their best of, Reinventing Hell.

Youve also got... Avenged Sevenfold, the "City of Evil" album at the very least has some good songs. Eh, Trivium, dont have their new album, but "Ascendancy" was pretty good. Chimaira, might be a bit heavy starting off, but they are amazing. Same goes for In Flames. Sepultura, Machine Head, Rammstein (Rammstein being German, but damn good) are all worth a look. Thats all I can think of off the top of my head really.

Of course, you most definitely cant go wrong with those already mentioned. Slayer, early Metallica, Megadeth, Lamb of God, Opeth, Maiden and System are all bloody brilliant. As with the other guys, add me on msn, and I'll be all too happy to send you a few choons.

List for ya man. Get it all. FTW indicates utter awesomeness.

Machine Head (FTW)
Killswitch Engage (FTW)
Shadows Fall
Chimaira
Avenged Sevenfold
Soilwork (FTW)
Mudvayne
God Forbid
Dream Theater
Bleeding Through
Breed 77
Devildriver
The Berzerker (Aussie death-grind - mad gravity blasts)
Strapping Young Lad

I love it all.

BTW Tiggs, song is '30 30 150', not '20 20 150' ;)

If you want my MSN to chat about meeeeeeeeetaaaaaaaahl and get some stuff sent over, gimme a PM. I'm possibly the most metal man in my entire bedroom. Actually, I'm the only man in my bedroom. But I'm still metal as all hell.

04-11-2006, 11:02 PM
I've nay heard their stuff yet, aren't they supposed to be like a techno hardcore mosh nintendo sort of band? Sounds like a fun mix!

Speaking of metal, I'm still trying to work on a deathmetal techno project called Zombified (ahem)slasher. Hopefully will have a decent set of songs by the end of next year... Hehehe.

Oh yeah, Still Remains are awesome too.

Yeah, and a band called colonopenbracket (otherwise known as ":(" ) are kinda like that but a bit more 8-bit/chiptune but also a bit more emo (and are supporting Enter Shikari on their tour but I missed them yesterday)...

Mad Capsule Markets? The Bronx?

I only listen to metal if it's like mixed with stuff or is a bit more interesting (goes for anything vaguely heavy, like Rage Against The Machine or, to a lesser extent, Muse and System Of A Down)...

I used to know a guy who'd be the perfect resource for this quest into metal. He knew just the way to ease you in so surely you'd be eventually exposed to every possible type and sound, and appreciate the lot of it, at least for a while...

The dude actually got me into Cannibal Corpse (for a while, anyway), even though it's totally unlike anything else I'd listen to (i'm not generally a fan of anything categorized as 'metal' from any time after the 70s, unless it's on the verge of more 'popular' genres).

The most recent that I have discovered would be SuidAkra. try the songs "Darkane Times" or "Pendragons fall".

If you want it a little more mainstream then try System of a Down or Mudvayne.

I mostly listen to SuidAkra though because I love them.

That the case may be, but hey, I gotta reinforce their awesomeness haven't I? Plus I can do a mean impression of the Berzerker himself... Well, without the obligatory growls of 'streeeeeeeeeeeeeewth!' that is.

i.e. 'streeeeeeeeeeeewth... the principles and practices of embaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalming....'

Working on it though! :D

Not yet, but then I'm waiting until it gets released so I can buy it and whee!

'For You' reminds me a little of Blood Has Been Shed (Howard and Justin's other band) - they're AWESOME. Prog-grind-metal. So... offtime... not in the way that they're out of time but the time signatures are Meshuggah-esque.

Dark Tranquillity is quite possibly my favorite metal band of all time. Lots to choose from, but the Damage Done album is probably my favorite. Punish My Heaven is also a great tune.

In other news, Hatebreed, Opeth, Children of Bodom, In Flames, Cannibal Corpse, and Between the Buried and Me.

The latter is amazing, although the timing in some of the songs on the album feels off. Mordecai is probably their best song, imo.

Manowar - Bunch of posers. Immortal - Even worse. Burzum - Varg Vikernes is a nazi (I use this not lightly, he really is.) Death - Yeah, I agree. At the Gates - Dunno. In Flames - Good up until the last 2 albums. Ensiferum - Amusing. Falkenbach - Dunno. Amon Amarth - Amusing. Anathema - Brilliant.

Martin, Steve Reich? I'm impressed.

My face has been like this >_< for the vast majority of the posts here. Metallica is extremely poor and is the soundtrack for David, the goofy, wanna be stoned-loner with a Dark Side of the Moon hat and Iron Maiden shirt and wrist bands.

The funniest metal band I think, is Impaled Northern Moonforest.
I myself, am only getting into metal, and not much of it at that. I don't get the no-one-can-touch-me arena rock metal bands, and the Dun-dun-dun-dun-WORRRGH, and the FREAK OUT!! *fret masturbation*. I mainly don't get why people want to hear someone so angst-ridden.

Stuff I like is pretty much, at the moment, The Melvins, and Kayo Dot.

If you want extreme stuff, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, Anaal Nathrakh, Akercocke etc.

Decent metal includes, Ulver, Om, Cannibal Corpse (if you take them as a comedy band), Mastodon etc.

One of the best drummers, one of the best guitarists, one of the best bassists, and one of the best keyboardists. None of them are the best in their instrumental niche, though. However, in short, Dream Theater is :notworthy . Except for LaBrie's vocals, they are mediocre at best.

And also, may I recommend Bloodbath. They were formed as a bit of a joke by some well-known musicians once, and it's probably best classified as death. However, they do not have the drum overkill many death bands have, they have great riffs, and frigging brutal vocals. (Mikael Akerfeldt of Opeth on 1 album, Peter Tagtren of, amongst others, Hypocrisy, on the other one.) Well worth your checking out. (Also, if you have a bit of a black sense of humour, their lyrics are hilarious.)

Some of my all-time favorites are:

Soilwork: Old and new style differ a lot, though my favorite album is "A Predator's Portrait". Original sound and definately way too awesome:
Myspace: "myspace.com/soilwork" for clips.

Dark Tranquillity: Very unique sound and some of the most excellent compositions I've ever heard in any kind of music. And even with their age (20 years in the business) they just keep releasing more and more really high quality albums.
Myspace: "myspace.com/dtofficial"

The Haunted: As far as the traditional "At the Gates"-style Swedish deathmetal goes, this band is one of the best (Very possibly because several of the "at the gates" members joined it, but meh, details )
Myspace: "myspace.com/thehaunted"

Then there are a couple of swarms more of favorites, but better to start with a few good bands and come back once you hunger for more. And thus I refuse to post more examples for now :yarr:

Your spot on, within the albums theres a destinct split in the style, going from a heavy rock to a metal, which is noticable when listening to all the albums in random mode.

Live they entertain you with a mixture of song, not only from the latest album 'Stabbing the drama', but also from 'Figure number five' (my favourite), 'A predator's portrait', ' Natural Born Chaos', 'the chain machine', '
Steelbath Suicide' and that ep kinna one 'The Early Chapters'.
