Hello all.

This may seem a silly query, but I haven't got much of a reputation on these forums to lose, so here goes:

I and 4 other school friends are in the process of planning a flash collaboration. I and one other friend have Flash 8 and Flash 8 only, whilst the rest have Flash MX 2004. We were planning to each do 10 seconds of a music video then e-mail the .fla file to the next animator, who'd continue the trend. The problem with this is that while MX .flas can be opened and edited in Flash 8, it doesn't work vice versa (I think).

How should we go about this problem? Or, is it necessary to use a different method when making the collab? (rather than sending it to eachother). Thanks for any help in advance.

Can't the people with MX just download a 30 day trial of flash 8?

Edit: when saving, click the drop down menu for "Save as type" and select Flash MX.

I'm not certain, but with most programs you can choose to save files as a previous version, e.g. in Word 2000, you can save as a Word 98 .doc file.

Hopefully it will take more than 30 days- if it's going to be any good.

Ah! Bravo. I knew it was a silly question- I never used the Save As option. Well, thanks for that you too. Gosh I feel embarrassed! Plus for you, dinnerbone.

You won't be able to use any flash filters though (such as blur, bevel, drop shadow etc) because that's flash 8 only.

and I don't think you can put movie clips within other movie clips in MX...
I may be wrong.

Just a suggestion, since there are a few limitations of what you can do in MX compared to 8... you and your friend who has 8 should be the last people to work on the project. That way you can be sure of anything going wrong due to limitations.
