Lo Forumites,

I recently purchased WoW and am very eager to play it.

However, upon installation of the second disc I am told that the file "Repack-MPQ\Data#dbc.MPQ\DBFilesClient\SkillLineAbility.db c" could not be installed.

It also says that this is error code 38.

I am very confused as I have previously installed and played the trial version of the game quite happily, so I see no reason why the full version will not install...

Oh dear... it seems that upon trying to reinstall my trial version that that is also not working.... I am very upset.

Help me please!

According to the WoW tech support forums, Error Code 38 is

"This error occurs only during installation, and it usually signifies faulty memory. The situations can vary, from improper configuration of RAM settings on the motherboard to mismatched RAM modules even faulty or failing RAM."

I am currently running a memory test using http://www.mersenne.org/freesoft.htm which was recommended by the tech support.

If anyone has any ideas what the actual problem might be and how i can fix it then please tell me... please!

Hmmm, maybe your health and social life would be better off if it was left uninstalled.
Now is your last chance to prevent addiction......

If you have mulitple ram sticks, try removing one or the other just during the installation, and replace it after. Some things are picky about ram timings and mismatching brands.

Anything overclocked in your system? If so, remove the clock. Also, the trial version client of the game is literally the same client as the full version, it's just the account privileges that change... sooo, you wouldn't need to uninstall the trial version of the client, just upgrade the account using the cd key here (https://www.wow-europe.com/login/login?service=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.wow-europe.com%2Faccount%2F). When you get it working, come play on Nordrassil :p.

Yes I stupidly uninstalled the trial version... silly me.

But anyhoo, it turned out that Disc 2 was actually corrupt so I just borrowed my friend's disc 2 and it installed fine.

So basically the WoW tech support forums were lying to me... the bastards.

I'm afraid that I am playing on Azjol-Nerub... so no...

Thanks for the help anyway guys.

I have no idea, but I think it might be the Universe telling you not to waste your money on it. :p
Don't you have to pay monthly for that?
And apparantly it's addictive?
And a few sad people have killed themselves over it?
