My Laptop is actually melting.

Ok, laptops are notorious for being shit. Well mine is being just that right now. It over heats ALL THE TIME and the fan is constantly going full-speed. Every now and then when running a program that takes a lot of cpu (like my online games) it will decide that it is too hot and just turn off. Not shut down. It just goes blank. Once it did this and i couldn't reboot because there was a problem with the Hard Disk (i got really scared then and started backing everything up when it came working again).

My friends think I have a problem with the heat-sync, but A) I don't know what that is and B) I don't know how to fix it. Nor if it will cost moneys.

The heat sink sucks up all the heat from whatever it's attached to, and the fans then cool the heat sinks; I had a faulty heat sink which caused the same problem. My laptop was under warranty though, so I got it fixed for free. Modern processors have fail safes to make them shut down if they get dangerously hot; older ones would simply burn themselves into a crispy lump of microchips. I'm not sure how to replace it, but by the sounds of it it's almost certainly the heat sink, and it needs fixing or replacing.

Its the metal bit with lots of fins, the fan blows air onto it and cools it down.
It'll be smaller obviously in a laptop, but take it to a PC shop, messing inside a laptop is not fun if you dont know what your doing.
One problem may be lots of dust all inside the vents blocking air from getting out, so get them cleaned.
Also, im not sure how a heatsink can be faulty, unless it has chunks of metal out of it, but the thermal paste underneath it may be not applied properly, or have somehow become detached from the heatsink.
