Feel free to post all your techy quandries in here.

Anything techy is acceptable, if you have problems with something or want to open other members eyes to the latest geek tech.

There are some rules though:

1) Don't post asking why windows crashes so much. Use lunix der.

(will add more later)

(If this forum takes off) Can people try not to ask a question that has already been asked in another thread. Always happens in these sorts of forums.

I think that's a problem with Invision Power Boards specifically, my friend has a forum by them and attachments there don't work either.

i'm nervous.the flash mx program is over 200 quid-is there any way of getting it cheaper?(and is there any smaller version of it that'l cost less?)
i'm not exactly an engineer so please don't start with the complicated stuff
does it require having a computer whizz right next to you to help you out when you can't stand it?or is it easy to use for primitive computer minds like mine?
sorry about the long post but i'm nervous (see first line)

Well I have it and use it and so do my friends and well it's not the most computer illiterate friendly software, i'm a pro with com's but I'm still learnin this software. All I know is I had to teach my friends.

Okay. This screenshot is quite weird. I have seen it happen to someone before...a person called Weebl's Donkey was doing the same thing and I looked at it like --> <-- that.

Basically, the screenshot is of someone called Smong, looking at "Moderating Duties"....how...the...hell...!?... sorta thing.

Mister Ben
05-05-2004, 09:15 PM
well the only possibility I can think of is they were viewing this page:
http://improbability.ultralab.net/stuff/picture%202.jpg
or maybe they were editing their own post or settings or reporting a post to a moderator which comes under moderation somehow.

still, it's puzzling...

Ok, I have a question. A mate of mine just purchased FarCry, and is having problems with the graphics. He is running it on a 2 Ghtz athlon processor (dunno which one), and a Radeon 9200 (this is all I know about his system). The autodetect ingame recommends medium settings, which seem about right for his setup. However, as soon as everything is put on medium, the game starts suffering from horrible lag, and there are all sorts of wierd graphical glitches. I've tried downloading various versions of the ATI officiall Catalyst drivers, but to no avail. In fact, they just make the game crash, and everything bugger up in a big way.

I am completely out of ideas. I have an inferior graphics card and processor to him (Athlon xp 2000+ 1.4 Ghtz and a GeForce 4 ti4200 AGPX8), yet with the normal drivers I can run it fine at low/medium settings, and with handy handy StarStorm drivers it will happily run at medium/high settings. Can anyone help me?

catalist is a little buggy heres a guide for sorting it nicely, http://www.tweaktown.com/document.php?dType=guide&dId=569

hope it helps

Or:

download the Omega drivers from here (http://www.omegacorner.com/index_ati.html) and disable fast writes in BIOS.

Ouroboros
05-05-2004, 11:19 PM
How on earth do I get to BIOS?

Pie R Squared
05-05-2004, 11:25 PM
Usually by bashing delete on start up, but if that doesnt work, you might have to find the mobo manual....

Ouroboros
06-05-2004, 06:43 PM
Ok, I did all that (omega drivers and fast writers off), but when he loads up a level on FarCry, now he gets some sort of VGU error, something to do with not getting signals from something or other to do with the graphics card.

Sorry if it's a bit vague and thanks for all the help so far.

Pie R Squared
06-05-2004, 08:08 PM
If you can post the full error message and what motherboard its running on etc then we could diagnose whats wrong more efficiently :)

I was just noticing that posts here don't count towards your post count (ie. Your rank.)

Is there any reason for this as I make loads of posts here and so am missing out on higher ranks.

If you thinnk I shouldn't be bothered by one tiny little thing that is fine too.

Is it now sorted then and if so is it just for all future posts or does it generate your post count on the fly?
