View Full Version : Alienware
I've seen these really expensive (and green, tee hee) computers called Alienware. Anyone have one of these. I want a new computer that tis good. Who makes it anyway? Or is the company actually called Alienware?

A friend has an Alienware computer. They are good, but the price is a bit high. The cases are sweet, and are available only from Alienware. As far as the components, they don't have anything that you can't buy and put together yourself for about 1/2 to 2/3 the price. I have three machines in my house, and I put them all together myself, with no problems.
I'm not much on putting computers together, but it would save a lot of money.

If you are in the U.S. ( I'm not sure about international shipping ) try here (http://www.cyberpowersystem.com/custom/thunderbird.htm) . They do Intel, too, for some reason:confused: .
Good prices on a custom built machine.

building a computer is actually really easy
(except when you think your gonna break it :P )
get a book about it and read through its what i did and my computer is working perfectly (atm) and was alot cheaper than buying one

The thing is when you're buying an alienware you're not only buying the components put together into computer form, you're buying the quality assurance.
These people don't whack the things together in the middle of a dusty dining room/lounge. They test the computers to make sure that nothing went wrong etc. They then give you a guarantee thingy so that if it goes wrong they will fix it etc.
You don't get that if you make it yourself
(in short it is for rich people)

Well, the manufacturers of the components do give a guarantee with their components, so if there is a defect they will replace it. But you do have to do all of the troubleshooting yourself. For the most part, the pieces should be good quality if you go with a well known brand ( Creative Labs, SOYO, Asus, etc. ) The only bad part I ever got was a Lite-on DVD drive.
I'v put together at least 8 computers for myself, plus a few computers for friends, and I haven't had a complaint or problem yet.

putting comps together is easy,
all the bits only fit in one place
and any one with common sence/a tutorial can work out the installing part...

I had an Alienware, but I sold it because I realised I could buy a better computer for less money.
I got it free anyway and they wanted it back so...

Well look at it this way, the one I got was worth about £1900 by alienwares computer prices. The one I'm running on now is about 6x better and it cost me about £900 :) I sold it for £1500.
The cases are so very sweet though, I think I might try and nick one off someone. The cooling was exceptional too.

thats why i'd have kept it so what if theres a better one available you can just alter your componants

What's done is done ;)
This was a while ago though, before the new cases, it was one of the crappy full tower standard black ones.
