Ah, Sony. My respect for them is slowly leeching away to be replaced by respect for the Xbox 360. Everything they do seems to stink of desperation.

How stupid, I wouldn't say I'm angry but its damn stupid.

No doubt Sony describe it as "Cutting edge" and "Innovative". Everyone else just describes it as low.
Well, this proves SCEE can make cockups just as bad as NOE's. Now we just wait for XOE (Or whatever the Microsoft one's called... I only have 3 Xbox games >.<).

Yet more evidence that Sony do not want people to buy their consoles. It is impossible to genuinely fuck up this much.

One good thing you can say about Sony though, they fucked up DRM for the entire music industry :p
Am i missing the point here?
Sure, the site and videos are pretty shit and all that, but the internet seems to be way overeacting to it.
The "Xbox back" video was worse.
I do wonder why they bother though. You'd have to be silly to make any decision on a purchase based on that video.

You are missing the point. They are trying to pass this off as an actual blog made by kids who are fanboys rather than the reality of it (Ad agency shilling Sony wears in order to "activate" users).

Some guys at the Sony marketing department are getting an arseful, I can tell you that...
Is it me or does no-one sane (at the moment) excited about the PS3?
I'm pretty happy with the 360 that my friend has, and am eager to try the Wii, but Sony look reaally desperate. I wonder if this despirateness will continue with the PS3 marketing. The PSP is great, and there was no need for this faux-blogging crap - I think it was a crazy idea that went wrong, very wrong. Gutted for them to be honest.
They have got themselves into deep shit now.

Because its nothing to get excited about. Played one in a shop. Complete MEH.
Sony=Fail. So happy that i chose not to get a psp for xmas last year. Instead, i got a GBA with my pocket money. ^_^

2006 really hasn't been a great year for Sony has it?
In the inevitable end of year thread someone must post a list of all the crap the company has got into this year.
You are missing the point. They are trying to pass this off as an actual blog made by kids who are fanboys rather than the reality of it (Ad agency shilling Sony wears in order to "activate" users).
Looking at it in that way, they've done a shite job. All of the forced text speak and the way too proffesional banner gives them away in a second, without even needing to do a WHOIS.

email to Sony:
Please stop the "alliwantforxmasisapsp" site and issue an apology. You're lying to people by saying this site is made by two kids. Honestly, find some better ways to advertise. playb3yond.com is cool but this and the racist psp adverts, the borderline offensive 'squirell' TV ads and the UK subway ads (your girlfriends white bits go here? wtf?) are just SAD.

Frankly, I couldn't give a shit if Sony do some crappy viral marketing. It's their money, not mine.
But they could learn a lot from this fanmade advert (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gE7UsyX0ZFw&eurl=), which pwns every one of theirs for presenting the PSP as something desirable and actually lists some reasons to buy it.

One step forward takes you two steps back.
No, wait, there are no forward steps here.
There have been a couple of shootings, though.
Anyone seen the fucking scary ps3 advert with the dolls yet?
That creeped me the fuck out.

Hahaha I don't know what's more pathetic. Zipatoni for thinking they're a professional company "Don't just wear it, pwn it" (WTF?) or Sony for actually thinking this would work.

Sure this is a big fat fuck up, but racist ads?
If you found the black & white psp ads racist, you need to stop being so PC.

But who knows how many of these viral marketing schemes have worked in the past? Just off the top of my head as an example, what if that video with the child getting excited about an N64 was spread as viral marketing by Nintendo? Maybe this stuff happens successfully all the time and, logically, we don't find out about it.

How many times have they delayed that?
This "Blog" reeks of desperation and is irritating to fans....

It certainly is shoddy. I wonder if anybody's getting fired over this? As embarrasing as it is I doubt it's done any actual harm, they've got people talking about PSPs one way or another.
The fact is was about the PSP made the whole thing more bizarre, I could believe a guy making a site all about how much he wants a PS3, a PSP one might have been believable a year ago but now it just seems stupid.

There's plenty media hype already around the PS3, it doesn't particularly need more viral marketing.
The PSP, however, has been somewhat flagging - the only noticeable launch recently has been GTA : Vice City Stories. Thus, makes sense to try and sell the failing product rather than one that's selling fine as-is [admittedly mainly as there are such a limited number of them].

Do you mean because that sentence is almost grammatically correct and spelt accurately? Or because the kind of person who is "down for a one on one rap off or settling it street stylez if you feel me playa" wouldn't know what being registered through an external provider actually means? I'm not even 100% sure if I know what it means myself.

It's almost like those condescending videos you have to watch in school, isn't it? The ones that try to be 'hip' and 'rad' despite those phrases having gone out of fashion as soon as they were invented.

The ones that try to be 'hip' and 'rad' despite those phrases having gone out of fashion as soon as they were invented. neither hip nor rad are 'phrases', that requires multiple words...
also, 'hip' is acceptably current as far as i knew; perhaps it varies from country to country though :p
Splush

I say rad all the time, so it must be hip. Although it's one of those words I started saying ironically and got so used to saying that I can't stop.

Pedantry is not a virtue. Remember that.
We had one of those types of shows in Year 11, Splush; there's a lot I'm willing to do to degrade and demean myself, but there are depths even I won't plumb. Mainly because I know what cynical, hard-edged bastards today's kids really are.

I don't think the PSP is that bad but really... Just say it's an advert and get it over with. This isn't the first time Sony have been in trouble with advertising... remember that Tekken scandal when they sent out fake x-rays to people showing broken bones? Some old lady got one and nearly shat herself.
Probably.

With Sony's declining reputation and sales, I'm getting worried that my huge collection of ps2 games are about to become obsolete. I want a 360 but I hate to think of wasting all my ps2 games. If I buy a 360, then I'll never buy a future version of PS again. When my old ps2 finally dies of old age, so goes my beloved game collection.
I've heard that the ps3 is having trouble with backward compatibility any way. I probably wouldn't be able to play my old games even if I had a ps3.
