I'm not sure whether this will go in here or Techy Bollocks, but is it wise buying a used computer from Ebay? I mean, fair enough, I'm not saying that the people won't send me a working computer, its just that Ebay, as far as I know, has no policies or rules for making sure people sort the computer out; wiping it, uninstalling the OS (or sending me the reinstall CD), sending all driver CDs, and so on.
It's just that some used PCs from Ebay are so much damn cheaper than a new PC (whether it be a Dell-ish job or a custom built), and the descriptions on some are rather short, even if they do seem to mention everything.

Anyone ever get a piece of computing machinery from Ebay, or would you strongly advise against it?

Depends entirely who you buy it from.

Have a look at their feedback and buy from someone with mostly positive.

You could always have a look at their negatives as well, cause sometimes it's just from some clown who didn't pay properly.

Also, if they live close by, arrange a pickup rather than delivery, that way you can pay by cash, check the condition of the comp first and ensure it doesn't get damaged by clumsy postmen.

I bought my laptop off ebay last year, I arranged a pickup and paid by cash and I'm still using it now without a single problem.

E-mail the person you want to buy the PC from and ask them if they will send you the reinstall CD ect...
