So, Ikea...
310,000,000 people visited IKEA last year
186 IKEA stores worldwide
And they are using up 3,979,600 sq metres of our precious earth.

But their furniture is shit!
Is it just me, or does EVERY SINGLE FRIGGEN THING I buy from there break!?
I swear each object has a set 'self destruct' device that ruins it after a few months so we have to go and buy a new one!
Anyone else have this problem??
Post pics of your ruined IKEA produce here.
Mine will be on here soon.

All my bookcases and DVD cases are from IKEA and I had all the right bits included in the box first time. Plus, I put them together nicely. Ive had no problems from IKEA at all, infact I was going to go over there this afternoon for some cheap photoframes and posters :)

IKEA are also going to give staff members a fold up bike each to reduce pollution from car journeys to and from work.....

I've had no problem with the bookcases & shelves I bought from there but have had nothing but grief with the bed.

It's designed to have the mattress sit on some slats that rest lightly on an aluminium rim around the edge. Now, I'm not sure if the slats are cut too short or the rim keeps bending but it's happened many times that the whole kit & caboodle has fallen through & I've woken up to find the top half of the bed a foot lower than my feet.

The fact that I'm 15 stone is neither here nor there. It's shoddy workmanship, I tell you - not just the fact it wasn't designed for a "well-upholstered" lad such as myself

My wardrobe is broken, and so is my bookcase. My beds lasted long, but it's not that good...
I'll post some pics later when I get home.

Ikea is only really good for the free pencils (with about 40-50 free pencil display cases per store, that's several pockets worth of free pencils even if you only take one for each display case), the 99p hotdogs and the bite-size Daim bars.

The bed and bookcases I've bought are still standing, though.

I go there for the chocolate. I almost won a $100 Ikea voucher in a raffle [came second]. If I'd got it I would have bought $100 of Swedish chocolate.

I must admit I do love the free pencils and the swedish chocolate, but really even the thought of going to Ikea gives me a headache.

Perhaps you're just no good at putting the furniture together?

My bedroom is pretty much all Ikea, some of the stuff being at least 10 years old. Apart from a couple draw handles coming off, nothing has broken.

Do you know there is a baby called Ikea because the parents thought it would be a nice name for a girl. If you imagine you live in say Sweden and Ikea (shop) didn't exist I could see where they're coming from.

No, that is one thing Ikea is good at, clear instructions.
it is after a few months of constant use that things fall apart. I'm not talking about picture frames and vases, i mean proper furniture like beds n' wardrobes.

don't you mean mdf or chipboard?

and when i bought swivel chair the 1st (as can be seen here (http://www.chrisgazzard.com/video/chair.htm)) it was from argos and broke in 6 months.

swivel chair the second was bought from ikea, for the same price, and is much much comfier, and so far has lasted about 18 months.

I went to an ikea in sweden on christmas day once, and it was only slightly less busy than usual, which isn't very busy at all compared to stores elsewhere. Our nearest is Thurrock which is like entering a war zone. My point is that the Swedes know better than to buy oodles of Ikea, so why don't we? It really is cheap, nasty and certainly not the pinnacle of design. Their photo frames and cutlery seem to survive.

Smartie's top tip:

If things keep breaking, then stop fucking buying the stuff from Ikea!

The only decent thing they sell are the CD racks.

Ps, your sig is too big by about 60kb

I cant understand what you guys are talking about. I havnt bought much from Ikea, but what I've bought havent broke. My mum and dad has got a big bookshelf and its still standing. Must be 11 years by now.
And there was a dude complaining about the bed not being comfortable. Something about a aluminum frame or seomthing. Its not Ikeas fault. Its yours. They didnt buy it and gave you that taste so you bought it.

And also. Everything breaks, nothing will live for ever. And if those things break as easy as you say, maybe you should try to be more carefull with your stuff and not throw to many destructive parties and such at your house.

you're forgetting the glass square desk lamp thingys they sell for about £3. they are everywhere. i believe them to be plotting to overthrow the government.

come to think of it, my lamp is actually broken, but only because i dropped it and the glass cracked

And yes, i agree with the whole 'stop buying ikea shit' thing, and have started my IKEA boycott today.
But no-one else will!

I already boycott Ikea, because I have a theory they are trying to take over the world.

I saw a documentary on them, and all the staff are hypnotised, I swear. And as if that wasn't bad enough, they try and force you to walk round in a set way!
Oh, the humanity!

Ahem. Seriously though, there are some shops which, regardless of the quality of their furniture, just annoy me. Ikea is one of these shops.

The creator of Ikea is actualy pretty cool. He's got loads of money. But he wont use it. He lives n an ordinery home(no luxery there). He has all the money on some bank account. And he only withdraws around 2500 $ a month to use on food and other things.

I quite like ikea, it does resonably priced, nicely designed furnatrure. We recently bought 2 sofas from them, and although one of the legs broke, my dad called them up and got it replaced the same day. If thats not a good serface i dont know what is. Sure they use alot of vaneers but thats not uncommon and can look alright if done well.

I mostly like the *crazy* Sweedish foods you can buy there. That stuff is mad.

*love it*

Whats so crazy about it. Really dont knwo what they sell there. Havnt had the urge to eat at their places.
And swedish food is boring btw. No nice spices. The most comon spice used in swedish food is salt. Yay!

My bed is from IKEA, my Dresser is from IKEA, the 2 tables in my room are from IKEA and I have had no problems othe than the occasional squeaking from my bed, which is to be expected considering that's where people spend most of their lives. I've had nothing but good experiences with IKEA.

No one was questioning IKEAs ability to produce good instructions, your ability to assemble them was what was in doubted.

PILBO coffee table, $249

FAGELBO sofa, $1249

LAVER table with 4 chairs, $119

2 SOLSTRA OLARP armchairs, $158

10 sweedish meatballs, $6.50

Throwing a dinner party and realising that all that crap you bought from IKEA just fell apart, priceless.

Well you made a critical error there. You combined women with furniture assembly. It never ends well.

I've never had a problem with IKEA. My brother did once get given a table with one leg the wrong colour, but they replaced it and delivered it to him so he didn't have to go back to collect it. I never understand why people hate it so much. My IKEA furniture is great.
