I ditched the dinky little speakers (Altec-Lansing 5 watt) that came with the system. I attached my two Yamaha MS101 Audio Monitors (120 watts RMS per channel) instead. I can blast the windows out if I so desire. I really get great sound when listening to "Hats For Clowns." But, darn it, I have no subwoofer.:(
At home I am still using a Junk Box Special, made from recycled parts. I plan to purchase a whole new (!) computer in a month or so. Woo and Yay.

Hehe, I didn't have a subwoofer either-but I bought a cheap console sound system and hardwired it into my current one-it was so good I bought another one-and had to get an expensive booster because then it didn't work. Worth the effort as I now have an 8.2 surround system :D

Anyone who asks intelligent questions like that is no longer computer illiterate. You are interested in learning more than the average end user is. Asking questions is commendable. Pin a gold star on your collar/hat/t-shirt sleeve.

If you're worried, just whack a couple of extra fans in, also heatsinks are fairly cheap and effective.

Sheesh! :nana:
Well, here's my little kaboodal of comps -
Works (supplied by college):
Dell Optiplex GX1
PII 200Mhz
260Mb RAM
6Gb HDD
I believe a 40x CD-ROM
15" CRT monitor
running WinNT 4
Tis on college network so I get about 120Mb HDD space on there, which is nice :) Ooh, and a f= a= s= t= net connection practically straight onto the net! \o/
My laptop:
Compaq Armada 4160T
P166Mhz
80Mb RAM
2.1Gb HDD
No room for CD/CDRW/DVD (too small a case)
Xircom Ethernet 10/100 + 56k Modem Combi Card
14" (?) TFT LCD screen
running Windows ME
[Probably the most reliable system I've got!]
Music computer:
Shop built special
AMD K6/2 500Mhz
3.4Gb HDD for OS, 10Gb HDD for storage
262Mb RAM
Creative Live! Platinum 5.1 soundcard w/LiveDrive
NetGear 10/100 network card
56k Modem card
8x LG DVD-ROM, 8x4x24 Yamaha CD-RW (currently in next system)
5 octave MIDI keyboard (make forgotten)
21" CRT monitor
running Win ME
Custom for work:
Compaq Professional workstation
Dual PII 300Mhz
262Mb RAM
2x 4.2Gb Wide SCSI HDDs, 8Gb IDE HDD
24x CD-ROM
Built in soundcard/network card
Dual output Graphics card (make forgotten) + Matrox Millenium 32Mb graphics card
2x 17" CRT monitors
I have 2 4xCD-ROM drive towers (all 24x speed) which connect via SCSI, but I dont have the cables for them atm - will use for DJ-ing/mp3's and network backup, eventually.
Am currently using that one for PowerPoint & Flash anim's at work for the drama productions, hence the multiple monitor outputs.
I have another old comp which I wanna try Linux out on, but I just never seem to get the time to do it. An old P166 clocked to 200Mhz, 196Mb RAM. Ran more reliably than the AMD machine until I needed to do upgrade for the music. Nevermind.
My dad's got the broadband at home on his machine until we get the network sorted (only 128k, but better than dialup). Till then, I use my laptop for the net if I'm not at home or sometimes at work.
These are just my little machines, I could go for another page with all the machines me dad's got! :D

My system's not up to much but I really don't see the point in upgrading. It does everything I want it too, and it does it pretty quick. I can play new games such as Broken Sword 3 and UT2004 no problem, and of course it does all web browsing and stuff fine. Plus - I can't afford it any way!

Athlon 1GHz
ABit KT7A MoBo (good board IMO)
384MB PC133 SDRAM
Cheapo 4 Channel CMI8738 Soundcard
Radeon 9000 Pro 64MB (Dual-head)
802.11b USB stick
16x Hitachi DVD-ROM
12x/10x/32x Lite-On CD-RW
1x30 Gig, 1x40 Gig Hard Drives
Altec Lansing ACS-56 speakers (very good for the money)
Canon i320 Printer
Umax AstraPix 430 webcam (not mine - stole it from my brother)
1x17" monitor, 1x15" monitor
PlusNet 512k ADSL connection via wireless router (shared with the other 2 PCs in the house)
One of them hi-tech floppy disk thingymajigs
