Throw a snowball in your own face from me.
damn, realised I am too late to celebrate the Saturnalia. The Roman festival that was modified into Christmas. Can't remember the name of the Greek festival the Romans ripped off. But that was on the 17th. Oh well, my slaves won't be getting any presents from me.
Edity: Ah yes, the Brumalia was its name

according to QI, it wasn't saturnalia, it was Mithras

Hmmmm
well I'm just recalling what I learnt in Classical Studies at High School.
Saturnalia was a festival in which everybody was equal and the masters gave their slaves presents. There was also a large feast, but then again there usually was at any festival.
If I remember correct Mithras was more of a cult than an actual festival. I think it was only for men and they went through various stages, which I think were all named after animals. I can't see any similarities between Mithras and Christmas. But then again, this is all memory and likely to be wrong. Plus I don't think it was that widescale. All the cermoneys took place in caves and such.
