this felt like a very good christmas, though my goodies were far fewer and individually less expensive than years when i was younger (though i have many close relatives, most stopped sending stuff when i was in my mid-teens). i figure it was the quality of what i got that far outweighed anything else, and the fact that my family was entirely enthusiastic about the gifts i got them.
i have:
quite expertly framed version of my MLIS degree
Codebreaker, hardcover book by Stephen Pincock
pair of gloves + a touque
a seemingly tiny cloth bag which folds out to be actually pretty damn huge*
$10 in stabucks gift cards
a german miniature imitation 'jenga' game called Wackel Turm
an cube-shaped wood puzzle - there's only one way to get it into pieces, and similarly only one way to put it back together.
sandalwood soap
goat milk soap
liquid shower soap **
a tiny keychain light that's startlingly bright, and includes a seizure-inducing "flash" mode.
a bamboo box from chinatown in Vancouver
Terry's Chocolate Orange
January 07 issue of Spin magazine
January 07 issue of (Canadian Edition) Maxim magazine ***
* fun fact: it's called a "Randy Bag".
** all this soap might be a hidden message. o__O
*** odd gift to get. especially from the parents...

though my goodies were far fewer and individually less expensive than years when i was younger This could just be me, but I reckon it's quality over quantity.

I think a lot of you got really shit CD's to be honest. Apart from that one guy who got a Yes CD but that could be a shit album.
But seriously. Tenacious D? How 2000.

25-12-2006, 08:30 PM
This could just be me, but I reckon it's quality over quantity.
Correct imo.
I get fewer presents each year but the awesome value steadily increases. More pleasing still is that the childish thoughts of "are there any more to come?" have left me.
captain canuck
25-12-2006, 08:31 PM
This could just be me, but I reckon it's quality over quantity. i agree completely. the challenge is that 'quality' has a habit of going down in proportion with the other classification i noted (cost) - because most of my relatives aren't very good with "thoughtfulness on a budget". which is why they stopped altogether (except the book from one aunt).
my immediate family is awesome at doing that though. only the gift i listed first was over $10, and they're all really quite neat things. ^__^
...i especially like the keychain light, because it's so much fun to bug my cat with.

From my wife:
Oblivion (FINALLY!)
The autograph of former Green Bay Packer (NFL) Tyrone Williams (which she personally got from him herself). He was a member of the team when they won the Super Bowl.

Starbucks gift card
From my uncle:
A box of Hickory Farms meats & cheeses
From the in-laws:

I know, it doesn't seem like a huge haul or anything, but the stuff I got was either very unique and something I thought I'd never have (the autograph) or something I've wanted for a very long time (the jacket), so for me, it was a fantastic Christams.
Also, my son kicked my ass in the present department.

The crap:
17 Make-up kit (the relative who got me it obviously doesn't know anything about me, or she would be aware that my view on make-up of any kind is that it is worse than a dose of Black Death... >.> )
Birthday Book - oh look, a calender of the year where you can note down people's birthdays, great...¬_¬
The decent
Scarf - it's so purty ^^ - my aunty got it at the Clothes Show at the NEC (or so she said at least) and it's just absolutely gorgeous ^_^
Anna Sui Secret Wish - it smells divine, and now so do I! :p
Bracelet - it's purty and pretty fun to play with :p
The wonderfully amazing and brilliant!
DIGITAL CAMERA!!!!!
It's PINK! And it's so purty and shiny and cool and...and...
I like it rather a lot :D

I got a 6 string bass... It's got dual active humbucker pickups, 3band active eq, it's thru neck and it looks yummy, 35" scale, yeah mine's longer than yours. Got a strap for it too, and a new lead.
Got a hat and a hoodie and a book and a cdplayer/alarm clock thing, apparently i'm a lazy cunt and this should wake me up. Fat chance!

my birthday is close enough to the big day to count, so i can add the following:
$240
really high quality hoodie
3 CD set of random sound effects (?)
5 foot long barbecue fork (?)
Kirby: Canvas Curse (DS game)
two t-shirts
cash will go toward a new digital camera eventually; i'd just like to be working before i spend that amount. otherwise it seems a bit reckless given other bills and rent and stuff looming :p

there are 300 in all. i won't bother with an even partial list here, as it would take a lot of time and space to do it justice. i'll see if i can find it online, though.
got some more presents today i missed on christmas from various relatives
a jar of smelly bath stuff....that actually smells good this time
lip balms
a gift certificate to my favorite outdoor clothes store
and fnally, for some reason a few of my closest relatives are laboring under the delusion i like really silky fluffy socks. :(

However, my mom refuses to let my spirit die, and spoils me every christmas.
The stuff worth talking about:
Bed
Comfy computer chair
Headphones that don't make my ears hurt
DVD player
Madden 07
New basketball
Stuffed cow (from a friend XD)
Smaller stuffed cow (yeah.)
Cow coasters!
And a cow on top of a barrel that says Udder Stuff! :P
