KEY
substitutions in yellow ■ deaths in white

The rules are simple. You propose five celebrities you believe will croak before 2359 on December 31st 2007 and if you're right, you'll be given points. The player with the most points at midnight on 31st December/1st January 2007/08 will be the winner.

THE RULES

Every entrant must submit a list of five celebrities who they believe will pass away before midnight on 31st December 2007.
All chosen celebrities must be human and must be real people (ie no characters from soaps or film)
All chosen celebrities must be named in the entry (ie no entires of Pope What's-his-name or "the oldest man in the world") - If they are a celebrity who is not likely to be recognised by the majority of the entrants, please add a simple not to explain who (s)he is (ie "Margaret Thatcher - ex-British Prime Minister").
Anyone caught murdering their target will be sent to bed without any supper and will not receive their Death Pool points (and you may also face up to life imprisonment or even the death penalty depending on where you live). Other entrants will receive their points as normal.
In order to qualify as a celebrity, the entrant must be famous enough to get an obituary in a major British/American newspaper or on the BBC website upon their death.
Up to two substitutions may be made throughout the year (one substitute only if you enter after 2359 on 15th June 2007), although a points penalty will be imposed if this person then dies. A person cannot be substituted after it is widely announced that they are terminally ill or have been hospitalised after suffering serious injuries in an accident. This rule also applies to new entrants
In the event of a tie at the end of the competition, the winner will be the entrant with the highest number of correct nominations through the year. If it is still a tie, the player with the lowest average age for their dead entrants will be the winner. If it's still a tie, then it's a draw. This game really isn't that important.
You canot pick someone who has been sentenced to die within the next year. If their penalty is reduced you will be allowed to pick them.

HOW TO SCORE POINTS

When a person dies, anyone who has nominated them in their list will receive 100 points minus the age of the person when they die (ie, a 50 year old will be worth 50 points, a 60 year old 40 points etc). A 100+ year old is worth 1 point.
If the five people in your list die in the order you have listed them, a bonus of 100 points will be given.
If all five celebrities in your list die, but in a different order to your entry then 50 bonus points will be given.
If the dead celebrity is a substitution, 1/3 of their points will be docked.

HOW TO ENTER

Pick 5 celebrities who you think will die before 31st December 2007 which adhere to the rules.
Post or PM me your chosen 5.

DUE TO CURRENT ILLNESSES YOU CANNOT CHOOSE

Any thoughts/comments etc before the game starts on January 1st?

I think maybe a year is too long to find who wins and with only two substitutes allowed surely the thread will be regularly dissappearing off the front page and need many many bumps.
A person cannot be substituted after it is widely announced that they are terminally ill or have been hospitalised after suffering serious injuries in an accident.
This is a good rule though.

It will need many bumps but I hope people enter during the year.
I have seen this done successfully on another forum, so I hope the same happens here.

Don't bother with nominations before New Year Day, it'll confuse things if one dies before then.

Micheal Jackson (beaten by some crazy mother)
Jack Nicholson (Natural, heart attack??)
Whitney Huston (Drugs)
Eminem (Pisses someone off that shoots him or something)
and
The queen of England (Age)

Well there is my list

Just a suggestion, but I think the substitutions need changing. For a start, it seems that you lose points for having your substitution die when you replace someone with them... or maybe I just read that wrong. I thought you could always have 5 people; i.e. when one of your people dies they are replaced?

I'm in though :)

No you don't lose points. You just get a percentage rather than the whole amount. You don't replace someone who had died with a sub, you replace someone who is looking rather well and isn't going to snuff it.

You could choose anyone who is ill. You just can't substitute someone in if they become ill, for example, when someone is diagnosed with an illness.

Heavy T just chose Michael J Fox who like my choice, Muhammad Ali has been diagnosed with Parkinson's.

However, she's been terminally ill with lung & colon cancer for a while now. Is that allowed?

On March 13, 2006, she appeared again on a Larry King Live broadcast on CNN and stated that she was suffering from stage 4 lung cancer and was continuing treatment for it. She also mentioned having difficulty swallowing food, suffering panic attacks, and substantial weight loss.
A "Talk of the Town" item in the October 2, 2006 issue of The New Yorker stated that she was dying in hospice care.
A December 10, 2006 item in Walter Scott's column in Parade reported her son Jay was "at a North Carolina hospice with his mom, [who is] gravely ill with colon cancer" ([1]).

I've got nothing against Thatcher, she ended years of continuous civil unrest from many public sectors that held British life by gunpoint (miners strikes, firemen strikers, morgue strikes, etc), set Britain on some semblance of economic recovery and help assert Britain's continuing role as a great power during the Falkland's war.

All we got from Major was Black wednesday and a few Spitting Image jokes.

And yes, I do remember watching him on telly during his time in office. It was just before Playdays came on at 3pm. :D

That was Neil Kinnock's most memorable acheivement - to lose an election to John Major... "We're a'right!!" isn't the best thing to shout out at the party conference, look you. Major was a pillock though. He got totally shafted by the EC over the Maastrict treaty. He specifically requested that something specific be included the treaty - I forget what exactly - and the Europeans assured him that the treaty would include it. The government collectively failed to read the document thoroughly (or at all in many cases), Major signed it, and then it turned out that whatever-it-was that Major wanted to preserve was actually abolished in the small print.

His government also privatised the railways in an absolutely horrific manner and established the wretched Private Finance Initiative.

However, she was responsible for the devolution of Wales, which is now the poorest country in the UK. She had it in for the Welsh from the beginning.
