Have to say, i only really use windows

But I have friends who use all three, and he prefers Linux to Windows, which is no suprise really. Windows I find rather random on when it likes to crash  :(

Like today I was browseing my network, copying files and the such, and explorer randomly crashed and exited itself.

Tip: Don't copy stuff to your computers shared network file through the My Network Places window! It causes the above to happen :p

Windows is utter C*AP! unfortunatly is the leading brand and hence all software runs on it! i would ideally use Apple but microsoft have beaten them to everything so eventhough apple is a more stable OS than Windows, not all programs run on Apple!

im using a hewelett packard laptop(hp pavilion 4200 series), with windows xp, and at school we have windows '95 on our computers...

personally i dont like xp... i only downloaded msn 6.0 and yahoo messenger, and already its as slow as!

anyhoo, i wanna know how to get rid of windows messenger from my system, i think thats the reason why its slow, either that or my internet connection(32.0 kbps...56k modem)

To get rid of messenger, goto 'add/remove software' in the control panel. Then select messenger (somehwere on the list, can't remember what is starts with, but rest asured that the list is alphabetical!), and selcet 'remove'. Hey presto! it will uninstall it's self ;)

Pigabuff - that will remove MSN 6.0, not the evil Windows Messenger... but I'll get to that in a minute.

I think it might be RAM that's slowing it down.

Instead of having both MSN and Yahoo software, get Trillian Pro (you're meant to pay for it, but there are ways and means if you catch my drift) which can IRC, ICQ, AIM, MSN and Yahoo! at once (although obviously you don't have to have all of these, I only use mine for MSN and AIM) - having one program running instead of two might help.

Oh, and to remove Windows Messenger, click Start, Run and enter the following command:

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

Enjoy! :)

I'm using a PC running Windows XP - AMD Athlon XP 1600+, 1.40 GHz processor, 512Mb RAM. *happy*

If all else fails, a good, hot fire will remove Winders Messupper. Dynamite is effective, too.

Piggie and Ellie are very good at advice. Do what they said, the try mine as an extreme lastest resort.

I use everything. I am so cross-platform, I tie my left shoe on the right side. Ok, I'm fibbing. I don't use Linux or Free BSD, im spite of my former student assistant who would like to see me switch.

I am primarily a PC person, mostly because of work.

I'm using windows. Used windows and mac my whole life. I might buy a mac though, just because of its good reputation with graphic design.

You have MSN Messenger there yes.

Windows Messenger is the integrated Messenger that they so "handily" provide standard now, leaving XP full of holes at it's first launch...

I was alluding to the fact that as of this post over 90% of the votes were for Windows.

Seriously, the only way to remove Windows Messenger is to click Start then Run. Then, copy and paste the following (exactly, no alterations or nuffink) into the Run box:-

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

(Removing Messenger from Control Panel's Add/Remove thing will only delete the shortcut to Windows Messenger in the Start menu, not uninstall the program. Do as I say :) The first thing I do, every time I reinstall Windows for whatever reason, is remove Windows Messenger.)

(Guaranteed not to fuck up computers, but to help them instead!)

or could just use a free program called "FreshUI" it allows you to alter all sorts of hidden features of windows and one of them is to turn windows messenger off... look for it on google

I use windows mostly as it's my main computer with internet access, but my other computer has linux redhat on. I voted Windows. I use XP professional and it's actually very stable I find.

I am posting this from a HP Pavilion with a 600 MHz Celeron and no special goodies at all. The OS is Win 98 SE. Do I have feelings of inadequacy? No, it surfs the web as fast as any other computer on cable modem would.

The whole idea of whether a computer is adequate for your needs hinges on properly assessing your needs in the first place. We bought this thing nearly five years ago so my wife could take online classes from several universities at once. It has done the job it was originally intended to do and it still does it as well as it started out.

I want a new computer with everything on it, but can't afford one. I am not in a bad way over it, though. I have enough for now.
